The contractor must provide a qualified technician to bring the microscope back into safe working conditions following an extended period of downtime. The scope of work includes: ensuring all high-voltage, vacuum, cooling, and environmental systems function within acceptable parameters; conducting detailed inspection and maintenance of critical components including the electron source, lens systems, vacuum pumps, power supplies, and control electronics; identifying worn, damaged, or nonfunctional components; and performing comprehensive operational testing including beam alignment, vacuum performance checks, and imaging calibration. The projected site visit duration is ten business days, with the deliverable due within 150 days of the award date. The contract includes parts, labor, and travel costs; travel will not be reimbursed separately as costs are incorporated into the contract value. Project Service Contract for Talos F200C G2 Transmission Electron Microscope
General Information
1.0 Scope of Work
The technician will bring the Talos F200C G2 Transmission Electron Microscope back into safe working conditions after a long period of downtime. This includes carefully starting up the system, checking that all major functions are operating correctly, and performing general maintenance on key parts of the microscope. The technician will identify and replace any components that are worn out or are not working properly. After the work is completed, the technician will test the microscope to confirm it is operating normally and provide a brief report describing the work performed and any recommended follow‑up actions.
2.0 Background
The Talos F200C G2 Transmission Electron Microscope is a critical diagnostic instrument that supports rapid emergency response capabilities and high-resolution analytical needs at NBAF. Due to ongoing facility stand-up activities, the microscope has remained fully powered down for an extended period, a condition that poses significant risk to the long-term integrity of such a complex and high-value system. As a multimillion-dollar asset essential to mission readiness, the microscope requires a highly qualified technician to safely return it to operational status without causing damage to sensitive components. The future vision for this requirement is to ensure the Talos F200C G2 is restored to reliable, stable performance and remains fully available to support emergent diagnostic demands and ongoing scientific operations
