STATEMENT OF WORK

NRS Forestry Science Lab Lawn Care

SCOPE: The USDA, NRS Forestry Lab, Rhinelander WI., requires a Contractor to provide lawn care services to include approximately 21,800 square feet of mowing and weeding at 5986 Hwy

K Rhinelander, WI 54501.

SOCIAL DISTANCING - Contractors shall wear face mask as required and follow the 6-foot social distancing protocols. Follow any markers, signs, or guidance for entry to and exit from work and comply with any screenings that may take place at your worksite. All

Department Covid-19 guidelines for building re-entry and cleaning protocols will be followed by all who enter the facility.

Equipment, fuel, and landscaping product (mulch) will be provided by the contractor.

CONTRACT TASK

A. Lawn Maintenance – Mowing

1. The lawn area is approximately 21,800 Square Feet.

2. The lawn is to be mowed as required by grass height and weather up to 22 times a season. The grass will be cut to a 2.5-inch height.

3. Each grounds maintenance mowing must be completed on the same day.

a. Grass clippings must not be discharged toward the building or parked vehicles.

b. Grass clippings must not be discharged or left on sidewalks, curbs or streets.

c. Grass clipping must be removed from the sidewalk and drives.

d. Grass clippings must not remain clumped or unkempt.

C. Shrubbery Maintenance

1. Shrubbery maintenance shall be performed two times per year (May and early

October) of the subsequent year.

2. Shrubbery Maintenance shall include the inspection of each shrub, pruning and removing broken limbs as necessary and removal of dead or diseased shrubs.

3. All shrubs shall be maintained in accordance with the requirements of the species.

4. Shrubs shall be pruned behind sidewalks and to window height of the building.

5. Shrubs shall be pruned, in accordance with the following guidelines, to selectively remove unwanted growth and encourage shrubs to grow or respond in a desired manner:

a. Prior to starting work, the Contractor must propose a pruning plan for each cycle for the approval of PENNDOT.

b. All pruning must be accomplished as follows:

(1) Hedges must be sheared or pruned, as appropriate, to maintain their established shape and appearance.

(2) Remove dead, damaged or diseased wood; or structurally weak limbs that may cause a safety hazard or unsightly appearance.

(3) Remove ground cover, or any other extraneous vegetative growth from under or on the shrub/plant.

(4) Prune and/or remove growth in front of windows, over entrance ways or walks, or where vision is obstructed.

D. Annual Mulch

1. Annual mulched for flower bed is approximately 1,500 square feet.

2. Mulch will be added to the flower beds in the front of the building in May

(approximately 1 extra yard to cover mulching through the remainder of the season).

3. Mulch will be applied at 2” deep to cover.

4. Remove and properly dispose of old mulch and complete weeding before adding newly treated mulch.

E. Weed & Mulch

1. All beds will be weeded, mulched, and refreshed as necessary approximately 1-2 times per year throughout the growing season with treated mulch. Mulch should be 2” in depth.

2. Each grounds maintenance weeding must be completed on the same day.

3. No more than 2 weed and mulch treatments will be performed per growing season.

F. Spring Clean Up

Spring cleanup will be completed in May. Remove all leaves, branches and other debris that have accumulated through the course of the previous season. Contractor shall properly dispose of all leaves, branches and other debris.

G. Fall/Winter Cleanup

Fall cleanup shall be completed in October. Remove all leaves, branches and other debris that has accumulated through the course of the previous season. Contractor shall properly dispose of all leaves, branches and other debris

Any damage to Government Property incurred during the implementation of this contract must be repaired or replaced by the contractor to the satisfaction of the Government representatives.
