Statement of Work (SOW) Project (Product):

Purchase of a Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry System

GENERAL INFORMATION

1.0 Scope of Work: Vendor is to deliver a new Gas Chromatography/Mass

Spectrometer system as identified in this solicitation.

Features, Components, Accessories, Modules, Software and/or Services to be included:

1) Online gas sampling

2) Automated liquid sampling for unattended operation

3) Flame Ionization Detector (FID) and Mass Spectrometer (MS) connected in parallel for simultaneous analysis

4) Thermal conductivity detector (TCD)

5) Analytical software

6) Installation and training

2.0 Background: A Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry system (GC/MS) system is required to identify and quantify products from catalytic reactions as this information is crucial for understanding catalyst activity, selectivity, and stability. A GC is capable of efficiently separating the complex mixtures of molecules commonly produced in catalytic reactors. Online gas sampling capabilities are required for analyzing non-condensable products while automatic liquid sampling is needed for analyzing high-boiling molecules. A mass spectrometer (MS) is needed to identify each compound while FID and TCD are needed to accurately quantify the products.

CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS

3.0 Technical Requirements/Tasks:

Technical Specifications:

1) Fully integrated Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry system with provided software capable of controlling and analyzing data from all components

2) Flame Ionization Detector (FID) and Mass Spectrometer (MS) connected in parallel to outlet of single column for simultaneous analysis

3) Thermal Conductivity Detector (TCD) connected to outlet of second column

4) Two pneumatic sampling valves with sample loops for online gas analysis connected in series

- Sampling valve one connected to column one for analysis of hydrocarbons and oxygenates using FID/MS

- Sampling valve two connected to column two for analysis of permanent gases (i.e., H2, CO, CO2)

5) Heated valve box (operating temperature ≥ 200 oC) for pneumatic valves to prevent condensation

6) Pre-column, capable of back-flushing, prior to analysis column connected to

TCD

7) Automatic liquid sampler for unattended operation. Capacity of at least fifty,

1.5 or 2 mL sample vials.

8) Column oven capable of heating to 400 oC at 1-50 oC/min

9) GC column capable of separating C2-C16 hydrocarbons and oxygenates

10) GC column capable of separating H2, CO, and CO2

11) Hardware necessary for installing GC columns

12) Installation and setup of instrument, workstation, and software.

13) Onsite training within 1 month of installation unless both parties agree on a different time.

4.0 Government Furnished: Government will supply a standard loading dock to accept delivery of the unit. Government-furnished support for installation is limited to security access to the equipment in the NCAUR facility, adequate working space, heat, light, ventilation, air conditioning, electric current and outlets for the use of employees. Water, common solvents and gases for instrument testing will also be made available during servicing.
