About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details the procurement of a Tegramin Auto Polisher from Struers for Norfolk Naval Shipyard (NNSY). The objective is to acquire an auto polisher capable of efficiently grinding and polishing multiple metallographic samples simultaneously, improving the current manual sample preparation process. The device can handle 8-12 samples at once, compared to the current one-sample-at-a-time method, and will be used in conjunction with a CitoPress 30 mounting system.
Struers will be responsible for shipping the equipment to Norfolk Naval Shipyard, providing specific training on machine usage, and assisting with setup for the specific materials being prepared. NNSY will facilitate shipyard access and escort Struers personnel during installation. The estimated delivery is expected before the end of the fiscal year, with equipment installation and initial setup anticipated within 2 weeks of receipt. The work will be performed within the CIA of Norfolk Naval Shipyard, with no government-furnished property involved and no specific security requirements noted.

Statement of Work
Procurement of Tegramin Auto Polisher from Struers
Section A: Scope
1. Objective:
The objective is to procure a new Auto Polisher that has the capability of polishing/grinding multiple samples at one time. The auto polisher ideally should be capable of polishing multiple samples within an efficient amount of time. This is to aid our metallography process in preparing samples through grinding, and polishing before the final prep of etching the sample.
2. Background/Introduction
This auto polisher is being investigated as a means of automating our production of metallographic samples.
Our goal is to produce mounted samples within a timely manner and take these mounted samples and place them in an auto polisher to cut down on the time required to hand polish before moving on to the final step of etching the samples. Hand polishing is limited to one sample at a time whereas auto polishing can perform up to as many as 8 or 12 samples (size depending). But the auto polisher can only accept specific geometries which is where the CitoPress 30 comes in with its ability to mount two samples versus a single modular mount system.
This auto polisher can also be equipped with different consumables that have a much better wear rate then traditional sand paper used during hand polishing.
3. Limitations of Work: Not Applicable
Section B: Applicable Documents
4. Documentation: Not Applicable
Section C: Requirements
5. Scope of Work:
Procure an auto polisher that is capable of efficiently producing several polished samples within an allotted time to aid in our polishing and grinding phase of the metallographic preparations. With the purchase of this auto polisher, the company Struers will come out and provide specific training on how to effectively use the
Tegramin (Struers auto polisher) to achieve the proper polishing finish on the material surface and provide a flat surface for final inspection of the metallographic sample after etching.
6. Contractor Responsibilities: Struers, will aid NNSY in helping set up the machine to specific needs of the materials being prepared and demonstrate specific sectioning that will be required to achieve the mounted product needed for the grinding/polishing phase.
7. NNSY Responsibilities: NNSY will aid struers in the set up process and ensure they have the proper documentation to get into the shipyard. NNSYwill also assist struers by escorting them to the jobsite where the equipment is set up.
8. Government Furnished Property: No property will be shipped or transferred from the government this is the procurement of a machine from Struers.
9. Security Requirements: Not Applicable
10. Delivery Terms/Shipping/Transportation: The Tegramin will be shipped by Struers. The cost of shipping will be determined by the company as stated on the quote.
11. Place of Performance/Delivery Location: The work will be performed within the CIA of Norfolk
Naval Shipyard. Items are expected to be delivered to Norfolk Naval Shipyard.
12. Period of Performance (PoP)/ Completion Date/ Delivery Date: Estimated Delivery date would expect to be before the end of the fiscal year but will be however long procurement takes to order the hot mount press. The services included in the quote will be rendered once the product has been wired up to power within the lab and initially set up. This is expected to be hooked up within 2 weeks of receiving the product.
