About this file
This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for the procurement and delivery of exhaust shielding components for five Ship Service Diesel Generators (SSDGs) aboard the USS SOMERSET (LPD-25). The Navy discovered degraded exhaust shielding on the SSDG exhaust manifolds that poses a significant fire hazard due to degraded heat resistance and entrained oil, with exhaust temperatures reaching approximately 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit. The required parts are not available through standard stock systems.
The Contractor must supply four specific Caterpillar Hawthorne parts: Shield AS-EX (Cat Part# 263-9521, quantity 5), Exhaust Manifold Shield (Cat Part# 257-7703, quantity 5), 1.2mm Diameter Tire Wire (Cat Part# 138-3331, quantity 150), and Insulation 'Shield A' (Cat Part# 132-8300, quantity 5). All items must be brand new, unused, and in original OEM packaging with Certificate of Conformance documentation tracing parts directly to Caterpillar Inc. Parts must be properly packaged to prevent degradation, corrosion, or physical damage during transit and clearly labeled with part numbers, descriptions, quantities, and the Government Purchase Order/Contract Number. Delivery must be completed to USS SOMERSET in the reefer decks no later than January 2027 upon completion of the Drydocking Selected Restricted Availability (DSRA). The Contractor must comply with all applicable federal and California state laws, including Cal/OSHA regulations and Navy regulations. Delivery personnel must meet local naval installation security requirements and possess valid DBIDS credentials or pre-arranged base passes for access to the San Diego region facility. The Designated Government Representative is LS2 Rafael (310-803-7449; aeronjay.rafael@lpd25.navy.mil), and the Technical Point of Contact is EN2 Yates (585-358-8371; nolan.yates@lpd25.navy.mil).

Statement of Work (SOW) For Caterpillar Engine Shielding Parts
1.0 Background
Ship’s Force (S/F) discovered degraded exhaust shielding on the Ship Service Diesel Generator (SSDG) exhaust manifolds. The required heat shields are not available in the standard stock system. The current shielding has degraded heat resistance capabilities and entrained oil, which constitutes a significant fire hazard. With exhaust temperatures reaching approximately 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit, the current condition poses a high-risk of burn injuries to personnel and secondary damage to equipment.
2.0 Scope
