SECTION 01 10 00
DIVISION 1 SHORT FORM GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
PART 1 – GENERAL
ITEM 1 - DESCRIPTION OF WORK
1.1 Background: The Wilkie house and farm was purchased by the NPS and acquired in 2008. It was purchased with intention of moving the Ice Age National Scenic Trail (Ice Age NST) Administrative offices to the site and further goal of creating an interpretive center for the Ice Age NST. The Wilkie house was renovated in 2019-2020 and now is the administrative headquarters for the Ice Age NST. The Wilkie house has seen several significant additions to the building. The first was the stone portion of the building in 1864; followed by an addition of the Southeast wing and incorporating the Usonian style elements. The final was the Southwest wing which followed the same theme. Though the building is not eligible for the National Historic Register, it is a classic and elegant building. Moreover, the building is situated adjacent to the Ice Age NST which has over 2 million visitors per annual. The goal of this project is to replace the windows that are failing due to age and lack of upkeep with energy efficient and functional windows. The old windows are single pane french door opening windows with removeable storm or screen french door windows of which many of them are missing. The seals between windows are not tight and in some the entire window frame is leaking air. With central heat and air a combination of casement and picture windows will be the best solution to preserving the character of the building and superlative views while providing emergency egress and natural ventilation at key locations.
