STATEMENT OF WORK

(SERVICE)

GENERAL INFORMATION.

1.0 SCOPE OF WORK.

Covered components will include:

2.0 BACKGROUND.

Seed Increase for Tropical Soybean Germplasm Accessions

Contractor will increase seeds of diverse, tropical soybean germplasm accessions (maturity group IX and X) managed by the USDA Soybean Germplasm Collection in Urbana, Illinois. These germplasm accessions flower, put on seed, and mature best between longitude 10 & 11, which cannot be found in the United States. Planting preference is early December.

1) Assist with import permit and custom clearing.

2) Provide proper seed bed for soybean planting and growth.

3) Administer appropriate agronomic practices during growing season.

4) Harvest and clean seed, ship seed to Urbana, Illinois.

5) Assist with export and shipping logistics.

The requirement is for tropical soybean germplasm seed increase projects that take place around the same time every other year in latitudes most similar to Upala, Costa Rica. The results are influenced by the growing environment of the projects. The soybean accessions for these projects are those adapted to the tropics that will not mature in the continental United States.

CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS.

3.0 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS/TASKS.

Service tasks include, but are not limited to:

1) Tropical environment (10-11 latitude) suitable to tropical soybean production.

2) Planting should occur no later than December 15.

3) Plant 800 plots of seeds that we send (75 plants per plot).

4) Weed the plots during the growing season.

5) Irrigate the plots (as needed).

6) Discard any off-type plants.

7) Each row must be uniform for all descriptive characteristics.

8) Verify flower and pubescence color, record maturity date.

9) Notes should be recorded in the fieldbook provided.

10) Photo-document the plots and communicate any issues via email.

11) Harvest the rows at maturity and clean the harvested seed.

12) Put four mature pods in the bag with the harvested seed.

13) Ship the cleaned seeds to Urbana, Illinois.

Government-furnished support includes providing seed of each accession to be increased, as well as an excel workbook detailing the unique characteristics of each accession.
