Statement of Work (SOW) Project: Repair of USDA Kincaid-SRES brand Precision Research Planter

GENERAL INFORMATION

q.0 Scope of Work:

The USDA-ARS Corn Insect and Crop Genetics Research Unit (CICGRU) in Ames, IA requires repair of a Kincaid-SRES brand precision research planter. The repair required is replacement of a “Step 4” model electronic control unit.

2.0 Background:

The planter is currently non-operational due to a previously unidentified failure of an electronic component. The current electronic control unit contains obsolete electronic components that are no longer available. The OEM has determined that the electronic control unit must be replaced to restore operation. The Kincaid-SRES planter is a highly specialized piece of equipment that operates with proprietary electronic controls. The planter is specially designed to plant small research plots at different seeding rates, different sizes (length of row planted) and different length of unplanted gaps between plots. Each plot is a different corn variety requiring seeding units that remove all excess seeds between plots very quickly. Due to the imminent timing of the Spring planting season, it is critical for repair to be made quickly to ensure the timely planting of maize research plots at appropriate time for corn growth and development to avoid loss of highly valued USDA research.
