Statement of Work Project: Holding protocol for bison, cattle, and elk

GENERAL INFORMATION

1.0 Scope of Work: Acquisition of young bison to add to current herd for use in ongoing brucellosis research.

2.0 Background: The current bison herd at USDA is used for ongoing brucellosis research. The addition of these young animals will add to the herd’s health and improvement.

CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS

3.0 Technical Requirements/Tasks:

1. 9 Male North American Bison calves from the same herd

2. 2 Female North American Bison calves from the same herd

3. Females shall not be bred.

4. Age – may be of varying ages - minimum age 5 months, maximum age 11 months of age at the time of delivery.

5. Bison calves shall demonstrate no signs of clinical illness.

6. Bison calves shall have sound legs and good eyes.

7. Bison calves shall be sourced from the same farm.

8. Certificate of Veterinary Inspection is required for all animals.

9. No Ring Worm or no pink eye shall be found on any of animals.

10. Bison calves must be from a confirmed CWD-free herd

11. Bison calves must conform to all State of Iowa import regulations

12. Animal shall be deliverable onsite to USDA in Ames, Iowa no later than

1/31/2024..

13. Qty: 11 total animals = 9 male and 2 female.

• Bison Available for Trade: credit to be referenced in quote:

1. Qty: One (1) 4 year old Bison Bull – dewormed and in good health.

2. Qty: One (1) 7 year old Bison Bull – dewormed and in good health.

4.0 Deliverables/Schedule: Bison calves shall be deliverable onsite to USDA in Ames, Iowa no later than 1/31/2024. Trade-in animals to be transported from USDA site at same time.
