About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details shot peening and rotary flap peening services for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard (PNSY) for Inconel 625 clad shafts. The work requires specialized peening techniques performed in strict accordance with military specifications Mil-S-13165C and Mil-S-81841, using ceramic shot with 0.033-inch nominal size and specific intensity requirements (0.008-0.012 A). Vendors must demonstrate prior experience with non-shipboard shot and rotary peening on similar large radiused surface areas, with a total peening surface area of approximately 145 ft² and 300 in².

Key quality assurance provisions require vendors to provide comprehensive documentation, including a Certification of Peening with detailed parameters like shaft serial number, peening date, machine settings, shot characteristics, and coverage verification. The contract mandates NAVSEANOTE 5000 vendor qualification or government oversight, with PNSY Engineering reviewing vendor capabilities. Strict security requirements are in place, including US citizenship verification for all personnel, two-form ID requirements, and access controls for the Controlled Industrial Area. Government-furnished items include the shaft, electrical power, service air, and personnel for shaft roller operations.
