About this file
This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a precision lateral move irrigation system required by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Plant Genetics Research Unit (PGRU) in Columbia, Missouri. The system must be capable of providing consistent, even, and adjustable irrigation for corn and soybean research plots at the Rollins/Hinkson Creek Research Farm. Key technical requirements include a 214-foot boom with 40-inch nozzle spacing, a furrow guidance system, a touch screen control system, integrated wind and soil sensors, and a towed power tower with a diesel generator. The system must be delivered, installed, and training provided by March 1, 2025.
This SOW is related to a pre-solicitation announcement from the USDA-ARS for the same precision irrigation system requirement. Interested vendors are invited to submit a response by June 7, 2024, providing contact information, a statement of interest and capability to meet the technical requirements outlined in the SOW.

Statement of Work
Lateral Move Precision Irrigation System
GENERAL INFORMATION
1.0 Scope of Work. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural
Research Service (ARS) Plant Genetics Research Unit (PGRU) in Columbia, MO requires a precision lateral move irrigation system for use at the Rollins/Hinkson creek Research
Farm to ensure consistent, even, and adjustable irrigation for corn and soybean research plots. A lateral system is needed both for keeping research plants alive and healthy, but also for keeping scientific records on the amounts of water applied and accurately adjusting these amounts in research projects. Moving lateral irrigation systems provide efficient, even, and tunable water source to multiple research plots.
2.0 Background. Lateral irrigation systems are movable, unanchored sprinkler systems that move at a constant speed up and down a field, moving water from the source (a well, pond, or water main) to the crops in a consistent, even, and adjustable manner. Scientific research plots at the Rollins/Hinkson creek farm are used to conduct a variety of experiments and each field contains large amounts of data that can be collected by researchers. Diverse genotypes are planted in research plots and many factors can affect plant health. A precision irrigation system, with control over water application is needed to ensure the integrity of these research studies. In times of water stress or drought, experiments are at risk of severe damage or death resulting in loss of valuable data for scientists. An irrigation system can also improve germination of plants by providing even moisture across a field.
CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS
3.0 Technical Requirements/Tasks. One fully functional lateral move precision irrigation system meeting the following specifications:
3.1 Complete, fully functional system including everything except the water supply itself.
Two end towers and boom spanning 214 ft. (tire track to tire track), constructed from galvanized materials to prevent corrosion. Pressed leg construction for lighter system to prevent deep ruts in fields.
3.2 Boom composed of galvanized pipe 6 5/8th in. diameter, spanning 214 ft. and 40 in.
nozzle outlet spacing, allowing more water placement control within the field.
3.3 Sprinkler nozzles, attached pressure regulators for constant and uniform water output, and PVC “drops” to lower the sprinkler closer to the crops and produce uniform and zonally controlled irrigation across the complete span.
3.4 Two soft drag hoses with couplers, 4 in. diameter, 330 ft., allowing lateral to move a full 660 ft. from water source
3.5 Furrow guidance system for lateral movement in a straight line across the field.
3.6 Touch screen control system and generator switch that function with complete precision irrigation system.
3.7 Compatible rain gauge connected with system and touch screen.
3.8 Integrated wind direction and velocity system.
3.9 Precision soil sensor and probe/cathode kit system to provide soil sensor feedback to lateral (CropX V4 kit, probe, CATM1H or similar)
3.10 Integrated low pressure safety shutdown system.
3.11 Integrated GPS resolver system.
3.12 Control valve box and system with tower mounted air compressor for 6 variable rate irrigation zones that are individually adjustable and can be controlled by GPS.
3.13 Integrated nozzles, valves, and control as well as drops for consistent distributed irrigation across the span.
3.14 Powered tower car at one end of the system, diesel powered (with 80 gal. fuel tank )to generate electricity and propel the system at constant and adjustable rates across the field.
3.14.1 Tires sized 14.9 x 24 in. tube tires with galvanized wheels (one forward and one reverse)
3.14.2 Generator (Kubota V1505 or similar), 10kw with fused panel V1505 or similar) with a double walled waterproof fuse box
3.14.3 GPS capable component to adjust for slippage.
3.14.4 Control panel containing a generator and control touch screen, rain gauge, wind direction and velocity sensors for additional data, and a soil sensor and probe/cathode kit for precision (CropX or similar
3.15 Safety features including lightning arrester to prevent damage from electrical shock, low pressure safety shutdown system
3.16 Towable and reverse towable towers and wheel gear hub system
3.17 Light attachment assembles.
3.18 No end boom or end water guns will be required.
3.19 Towable gearbox for easy towing.
3.20 High tensile strength galvanized steel. Must use the height possible strength to weight ratio materials available in the industry
3.21 Simple easy to understand and use control system.
3.22 Driveline shielding for safety.
3.23 Warranty: 10,000 hours or 12 years (or greater) on gearboxes. Two year or greater on electric components.
3.24 Supplier must deliver, install, and provide on-site training at location: “M.S. Zuber
