About this file

This Statement of Need (SON) details the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) requirement for a digital fluorescence microscope. The microscope will replace an outdated manual model and serve as the primary imaging station in a shared laboratory tissue culture room, supporting six principal investigators and over twenty trainees. The government requires a ZEISS Axiovert 5 Digital with Integrated Monochrome Camera or equivalent, with specific technical requirements including a 6-position objective turret, 4-position fluorescence LED mount, RGB-UV fluorescence LEDs, multiband filter sets, and an integrated monochrome research camera.

The procurement is a Firm Fixed-Price Purchase Order with delivery to NIH NIDDK, Building 50 in Bethesda, Maryland, within 120 days After Receipt of Order (ARO). Additional requirements include a Surface Pro 9 Tablet, Labscope software, on-site installation and training, and a 12-month warranty. Payment will be made in one lump sum, and the project officers are currently to be determined (TBD). The microscope must provide transmitted light phase contrast, multichannel fluorescence, and transmitted light brightfield imaging, with a focus on reproducibility and data quality in a multi-user research environment.

STATEMENT OF NEED (SON)

1.0 TITLE

Digital Fluorescence Microscope for NIDDK

2.0 BACKGROUND

The National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney

Diseases (NIDDK), Laboratory of Cellular and Developmental Biology (LCDB) research mission is investigating molecular mechanisms of cell differentiation and development to understand normal biology and provide insight into human disease.

The digital fluorescence microscope will be the primary image station in a shared laboratory tissue culture room of the NIDDK LCDB, supporting the work of six principal investigators and more than twenty trainees. The microscope will be replacing an outdated manual model that has not been fully functional for some time and has poor optical quality.
