About this file
This document is an Addendum 1 for the McCandless Avenue Stair Replacement project issued by the City of Pittsburgh, dated 6-29-2022. The addendum contains special provisions for three specific construction items: Class AAA Cement Concrete Modified, Precast Concrete, and Precast Concrete Lagging. The detailed specifications provide extensive guidelines for material requirements, focusing primarily on using white Portland cement with strict color and composition constraints to ensure a uniform, high-quality finished product. Key requirements include using white cement with less than 0.50% iron oxide, white aggregates from approved sources, light-colored crushed stone, and specialized admixtures and curing methods to prevent discoloration.
The specifications emphasize precise technical requirements for each concrete component, including minimum 28-day compressive strength of 4,000 psi, use of epoxy-coated or galvanized reinforcement, and specific curing and protective coating protocols. Shop drawings and supporting calculations must be submitted to the City for review and approval prior to fabrication, with all design calculations sealed and signed by a professional engineer registered in Pennsylvania. Measurement and payment will be handled on a lump sum basis for precast components, including delivery and erection, with lagging panels measured by square foot of the total surface area. Anti-graffiti coating is specified for exposed surfaces, and contractors must ensure a uniform appearance and repair any transportation or installation damages at no additional cost to the Department.
