About this file
The document is a Notice of Intent to Certify Sole Source #SS 388 from the University of Mississippi (UM). UM anticipates purchasing the herbicide Mevalocidin, manufactured by Mycosynthetix, Inc., as a sole source purchase. Mycosynthetix is the sole discoverer and producer of Mevalocidin, which is the key component of UM's research project "Mode of Action of the Natural Herbicide". UM has determined that 1 gram of Mevalocidin will be sufficient to complete the project. UM will accept objections to the sole source certification until July 23, 2024 at 10:00 am Central Time. If UM determines that the commodity can be provided by another source, it will withdraw the sole source certification and submit the procurement to a competitive process. If UM determines Mycosynthetix is the sole source, it will appeal to the Public Procurement Review Board for approval.
The amount UM will spend on Mevalocidin is small, considering it is essential for the project. UM negotiated the cost with the sole source vendor, Mycosynthetix, Inc. There are no set-asides or incumbent providers, as Mycosynthetix is the sole discoverer and producer of Mevalocidin. The project is funded by UM, and the source of the funds is not specified.

UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI
Notice of Intent to Certify Sole Source
#SS 388
The University of Mississippi (UM) anticipates purchasing the item(s) listed below as a sole source purchase. Anyone objecting to this purchase as a sole source shall follow the procedures outlined below.
Commodity or commodities to be purchased (manufacturer, model, description):
Mevalocidin a herbicide manufactured by Mycosynthetix, Inc.
The need to be fulfilled by this item(s) and why it is the only one that can meet the specific needs of the department:
Mycosynthetix discovered the compound Mevalocidin. There is no demand for the compound, as no one else is doing any work with it. Thus, there has been no reason for any other company to produce
it. This herbicide is the main element of a research project called Mode of Action of the Natural Herbicide.
Name of company/individual selling the item and why that source is the only possible source that can provide the required item(s):
Mycosynthetix Inc. phone: 919-245-0600 Cedric J. Pearce Ph.D. Founder and Chief Executive Office/Chief Scientific Officer. They are the company that discovered the compound.
Why the amount to be expended for the commodity is reasonable:
The entire project depends on having this compound. We have determined that 1 g will be enough to complete the project. The amount that we will spend on this compound is small, considering that it is essential for the project.
Efforts that the agency went through to obtain the best possible price for the commodity:
This is only available with Mycosynthetix. The cost was negotiated with the vendor.

If after a review of the submitted notice and documents, UM determines that the commodity in the proposed sole source request can be provided by another person or entity, then UM will withdraw the sole source certification and submit the procurement of the commodity to an advertised competitive bid or selection process.
If UM determines after review that there is only one (1) source for the required commodity, then UM will appeal to the Public Procurement Review Board for approval to purchase.
