About this file

This document is Addendum 01 for SRFP 18-289, issued by the Boise City Arts and History Department for a Vinyl Window Treatment project at Valley Regional Transit's Main Street Station. The project seeks a contractor to collaborate with a city-selected artist to prepare and install cut vinyl graphics on the station's interior windows. The preferred option involves a three-color, single-layer cut vinyl treatment, with alternative options for fewer colors. The project timeline includes contractor selection by June 6-7, template submission by June 13, artist design file delivery by August 31, and project closeout by September 19, 2018. Work must be performed after bus operational hours, primarily late evenings and on Sundays.

The addendum provides specific bidding requirements, including requesting price breakdowns for different vinyl treatment scenarios and additional technical specifications. Contractors must provide window templates within one week, specify design file limitations, and propose a solution to prevent vinyl peeling or damage. The project is part of a broader public art initiative by the City of Boise and Capitol City Development Corporation to enhance the transit station's interior, with the goal of creating a cohesive visual experience consistent with other transit shelters in the city. The vinyl treatment is expected to last at least 10 years and will cover all interior windows except ticket, conference room, and police substation windows.

VRT Vinyl Window Treatment: Pre-Bid Talking Points

Background:

In anticipation of the close out of Capitol City Development Corporation’s Central Business District, the Boise City Department of Arts & History has identified several potential public art projects to implement in Valley Regional Transit’s Main St. Station. The City and CCDC previously partnered on implementing public art projects during the initial construction of the facility, including a plan, Art Along the Way: The Art Plan for VRT’s Main Street Station. The projects identified in phase 1 of the plan were successfully implemented, but the plan identifies two further phases of projects.

Vision:

The interior of Main St. Station provides a unique artist opportunity for the application of cut vinyl graphics to be applied to its numerous windows. This would provide a cohesive experience for riders who experience similar treatment on various transit shelters throughout Boise. One artist will be commissioned to develop a comprehensive design for the entire facility, including treatment for windows in the waiting area and the interior entryway doors. A separate contractor will provide services for fabrication and installation.
