About this file
The document contains the specifications and requirements for a state and local contract opportunity to provide 100 tons of grass hay for the Washington State University (WSU) Knott Dairy Center. The minimum specifications include the hay being 180 tons, not rained on, free of hardware and residual herbicides, and delivered Monday through Friday by 3:00 PM to the WSU Knott Dairy Center. The preferred specifications are for 3x4 bales. Growers must provide test results to ensure the hay is free of certain herbicide residues before selling to WSU. The contract opportunity covers multiple counties in Washington state, including Franklin, Grant, Grays Harbor, Chelan, Yakima, and others.
The pricing for the contract includes delivery to the WSU Beef Center or Cattle Lab in Pullman, WA. Growers selling to WSU for the first time must provide test results to confirm the hay is free of the specified herbicide residues. The contract is for 100 tons of grass hay, but the document does not provide any additional details on the contract term, renewal options, or funding sources.

Testing Requirements for Residual Herbicides for WSU Grass Hay Feed, Forage and Straw
Units purchasing or growing forage for use in WSU animal care facilities that utilize the WSU Compost Facility, must insure that feed and forage are free of residual herbicides that be phytotoxic to plants after composting. Departments and the growers are responsible to insure that hay and forage are free from residues as a result of direct application, drift or soil residual contamination. Growers selling feed/grass hay/straw to WSU for the first time are required to provide test results to insure the product contains less than 25 ug/kg (10 parts/billion) of the active ingredients listed below.
These are chemicals in the Picolinic Acid family of herbicides. Originally developed by DOW Chemical.
The list of brand names may be incomplete. Growers are responsible to insure all feed, forage and straw is free of these active ingredients. These are selective broadleaf herbicides so Alfalfa hay and silage is exempt from these testing requirements.
Active Ingredients Brand Names Picloram Tordon Clopyralid Stinger, Transline, Reclaim,[2][6] Curtail, Confront, Clopyr AG, Lontrel, Millennium Ultra, Millenium Ultra Plus and Redeem.
Triclopyr Turflon, Weed-B-Gon (purple label), and Brush-B-Gon ("Poison Ivy Killer") for these purposes. It is a major ingredient in Confront
Aminopyralid Milestone, Grazon
