This is a Special Packaging Instruction (SPI) document for the Monitor, Head-Up Display, issued by the Department of Defense (406 SCMS/GULAA, Hill Air Force Base, Utah) with distribution limited to DOD and U.S. DOD contractors for administrative or operational use. The document specifies detailed packaging requirements for this military equipment under the part/drawing number 46431110-30 and national stock number 1270-01-514-2683 WF. The item must be packaged in accordance with Military Preservation IAW MIL-STD-2073, with serviceable and unserviceable methods both utilizing Level S2 preservation and QUP 001 and ICO 000 cleaning and drying procedures. Marking requirements follow IAW MIL-STD-129, with special instructions to mark the SPI number (F01-279-4724) on the identification side of the container. The container must be reusable, not destroyed, not for outside storage, and unopened until ready for use/inspection, with Method 50 labels applied.
Two packaging levels are specified with distinct requirements: Level A uses ASTM D6251 closure per MIL-STD-2073 Style Type A, while Level B uses ASTM D5118 closure (RSC). Level A dimensions are 33 x 23 3/4 x 21 1/2 inches with gross cubic feet of 14.082 and gross weight of 150 lbs. Level B dimensions are 32 1/4 x 23 x 20 1/2 inches with 9.378 cubic feet and 77 lbs. Both levels have a design fragility rating of 85. The document includes comprehensive material specifications for cushioning, dunnage, barrier bags, and tape per various military and ASTM standards, along with detailed dimensioned drawings showing the assembly configuration. International wood packaging material requirements comply with ISPM No. 15, mandating debarked, heat-treated wood (56°C for 30 minutes minimum) with certification from an ALSC-accredited agency for all wooden components used in construction.
