Statement of Requirement

Project: Susceptibility of swine to HPAI

GENERAL INFORMATION

CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS

1.0 Technical Requirements/Tasks: These projects require the purchase of 9 bred sows delivered approximately 2 weeks prior to farrowing (Parity 3 or greater; no lameness; average litter greater than 8) for three consecutive months; the deliveries would be approximately 4-8 weeks apart. For a total of 27 Sows. We would like to have the sows farrow mid-December. The sows must be purchased from a high health sow farm. For this project we require sows to have these properties:

1) Sows must originate from a single site/farm.

2) Sows must be Parity 3 or greater

3) Sows must be influenza virus and antibody negative.

4) Sows must be of high health status, free of PRRSV, MHP, PCV2 and PED

5) Vendor must submit pre-purchase screening blood from ~15 sows each month to an accredited veterinary diagnostic laboratory (VDL) for IAV, MHP, and PRRSV ELISA and provide results directly from the VDL.

6) Sows must not farrow on the trailer.

7) Sows must farrow within 3-4 days of each other each delivery.

8) Sows must be sound of foot and body.

9) Sows must be available for delivery as soon as the award has been issued to vendor.

10) Sows must be transported directly to NADC with no other pigs in the trailer.

11) Sows cannot be on the trailer for transportation to NADC for longer than six hours.

12) Invoicing and payment may only occur after each diagnostic testing cycle prior to each delivery is completed and proven to be acceptable by the Principal Investigator.

This project may require the purchase of 80 weaned pigs at approximately 3 weeks old for 3 consecutive months for a total of 240 piglets if sows are unavailable. Pigs must be from a high health sow farm. For this project we require pigs to have these properties:

1) Piglets must originate from a single sow site/farm.

2) Weaned piglets aged 3 weeks old and all within a few days of each other.

3) Piglets must be directly weaned from the sow farm, not from a nursery.

4) Piglets must not have any visible hernia (testicular or umbilical)

5) Piglets must be influenza virus and antibody negative.

6) Piglets must be of high health status, free of PRRSV, PCV2 and PED

7) Piglets must be sound of foot and body.

8) Pre-purchase screening blood from ~125piglets each month shipped to an accredited veterinary diagnostic laboratory (VDL) for ~30 pools of swabs for IAV PCR and provide results directly from the VDL.

9) Piglets must be available for the first delivery on or near the last week of December 2023.

10) Piglets must be transported directly to NADC with no other pigs in the trailer.

11) Piglets cannot be on the trailer for transportation to NADC for longer than six hours.

12) Qty: 80 each delivery for 3 deliveries for a total of 240 pigs.

13) Pigs must be available for delivery as soon as the award has been issued to vendor.

14) Invoicing and payment may only occur after each diagnostic testing cycle prior to each delivery is completed and proven to be acceptable by the Principal Investigator.
