About this file
This is a Project Specifications document for the Everglades National Park, detailing a road elevation project for the Raising Audacy and Salem Radio Tower Access Roads (PMIS 349877). The project involves raising two radio tower access roads to an elevation of 8.5' NAVD88, with specific locations near US Highway 41 (Tamiami Trail). The work is scheduled during the annual low water period from April 1 through June 15, and includes installing geotextile fabric, aggregate base course, and replacing existing pipe culverts.
Key technical requirements include using Florida DOT-specified materials, such as AASHTO M288 geotextile fabric, aggregate base fill meeting Section 911 specifications, and corrugated High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe with watertight joints. The project has strict environmental considerations, including protection of threatened and endangered species like Wood Storks, Eastern Indigo Snakes, Bonneted Bats, Florida Panthers, and American Crocodiles. The National Park Service has obtained necessary permits from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, South Florida Water Management District, and Miami-Dade DERM.
