About this file
This is a specifications document for a 28-foot conservation no-till drill required by the Northwest Sustainable Agroecosystems Research Unit under the Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service (Solicitation Number 1232SA26Q0479). The drill is mission-critical equipment intended to replace an aging 2010 15-foot Horsch drill and will be used for small- and large-scale agricultural research, including seeding crops ranging from canola to garbanzo beans, applying liquid fertilizers, and applying variable rate seed and fertilizer applications per wing section.
The equipment must include a 14-foot mainframe with two 7-foot hydraulic wings, capable of operating the mainframe alone while other sections are winged up, and feature three independent seed controllers for variable rate capability per wing/section. The drill must be equipped with 28 side-mount shank openers in paired row configuration with dual PW configuration, plus 28 additional Dutch openers at 12-inch spacing, a 3-inch clean-out auger, 8-foot fill auger, and 100-bushel seed box. Critical compatibility requirements include integration with the Trimble TMX 2050 guidance and variable rate control system for both seed and liquid controls. Additional specifications require active hydraulic down pressure arms with control system, capability to apply deep band and starter fertilizer, ability to switch to double disk openers, and a transport width of 18 feet or less with drawbar hitch compatibility.

Text version
We require equipment that must be compatible with the existing systems/equipment presently installed on the tractor that will be running the seeder. The software must be compatible with Trimble TMX 2050, guidance and variable rate control system.
A 28-ft conservation drill for use in small- and large-scale research is required by the Northwest Sustainable Agroecosystems Research Unit. This drill will be used to seed crops as small as canola up to garbanzo beans, apply liquid fertilizers, apply variable rate seed and fertilizer per wing.
This acquisition is mission critical because it is replacing a 2010 15-ft Horsch drill that has already had to undergo at least one complete rebuild and is currently not meeting the research needs nor was it built for the Palouse terrain. Without the updated drill farmers will continue to ignore important research that is being conducted because they do not feel it is applicable with such outdated technology being used.
