About this file

This document is a Specifications sheet for a Microarray Scanner required by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS). The USDA ARS is seeking to purchase a Microarray Scanner to support in-house high-throughput genotyping of Affymetrix/Axiom 'SNP Chip' microarrays for North American Atlantic salmon research and genetic improvement. The scanner must meet specific requirements, including supporting Axiom microarrays in 24, 96, and 384-well plate layouts, having an integrated hybridization oven and air compressor, and being capable of genotyping 6,000 samples in approximately 8 work weeks. Delivery and installation must be provided at the USDA ARS facility in Orono, Maine within 60 days of award. The purchase also includes installation, training, product documentation, and a 1-year warranty.

The related federal contract opportunity is a combined synopsis/solicitation issued as a Request for Quotation (RFQ) under a 100% Small Business Set-Aside with NAICS code 334516 (Analytical Laboratory Instrument Manufacturing). Quotes will be evaluated on a Lowest Price Technically Acceptable (LPTA) basis, considering technical capability to meet the stated specifications and past performance. Quotes are due by 7/24/2024 at 2:00 PM PT.

Specification Microarray Scanner I. Background The USDA Agricultural Research Service requires a Microarray Scanner to advance research regarding North American Atlantic salmon aquaculture and genetic improvement. The purchase of this instrument will allow for in-house high throughput genotyping of Affymetrix/Axiom ‘SNP Chip’ microarrays. The USDA has recently dedicated significant resources to developing such a microarray for North American Atlantic salmon (Gao et al. 2023). As genotyping is currently a contracted service, performing this service in-house will allow for greater control over sample quality and data pipelines, more efficient use of support staff, and cost savings of up to 300% compared to current service costs. In addition, this instrument will provide a valuable service to collaborative groups within USDA-ARS and to the University of Maine, Orono, who do not have access to an instrument of similar quality. This Microarray Scanner must meet all minimum specifications provided below.
