About this file

This is a specification document detailing requirements for procurement of a LiCOR 8250-01 Extension Manifold and long-term automated chambers/accessories for the USDA Agricultural Research Service in Bowling Green, KY, funded under the Inflation Reduction Act Greenhouse Gas Quantification Cropland Network.

The requirements include one automated multiplexer extension manifold compatible with existing LI-8250 Multiplexer and LI-7810/7820 trace gas analyzers, seven long-term field research chambers, and associated accessories. Key specifications include: the manifold must have IEC IP55 weatherproofing, operate in -20 to 45°C temperatures, control 8 automated chambers, relay temperature/pressure measurements, include NTP server capabilities, and be compatible with SoilFluxPro software. The chambers must work with 8"+ diameter PVC collars, include automated opening/closing mechanisms, GPS, adjustable legs, reflective white exterior, pressure vents, and temperature/moisture probes. Accessories include 14 cable assemblies (15m length) and 8 soil moisture/temperature probes. All equipment must integrate with existing systems to ensure data consistency across Network projects, with delivery to Bowling Green, KY.

SECTION

02 Required Specification

SECTION 01 Need Statement

1 Need Statement: The requested equipment package will need to be able to monitor all three major greenhouse gas (N2O, CH4, and CO2) in a completely randomized plot design research study in a corn/soybean cropping system. There will be 32 monitoring locations from 4 main treatments, 4 replications, and one chamber for each subplot. We intend to integrate this equipment package into an existing GHG analyzers/multiplexer/8 long-term chamber monitoring system, thus requesting 7 new long-term field research chambers, a multiplexer extension manifold, and required accessories.

2 Background: The Inflation Reduction Act Greenhouse Gas Quantification Cropland

Network will develop a research and monitoring network to collect and synthesize multi-scale major greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from cropping production systems that represent major agricultural sources. Flux monitoring equipment is needed to expand existing research and infrastructure and broaden the range of crop management practices that can be evaluated.

SECTION 02 Required Specifications

Qty: 1 Automated Multiplexer Extension Manifold

Automated Multiplexer Extension Manifold requirements

• The automated multiplexer extension manifold must be compatible with existing equipment (LI-8250 Multiplexer; LI-7810 and LI-7820 trace gas analyzers) and provide for sampling in conjunction with 8 automated long-term field research chambers.

• The extension manifold must have a minimum weatherproof rating of IEC IP55 standards and be able to operate in temperatures ranging from -20 to 45oC with up to 95% relative humidity.

• The multiplexer extension manifold must be able to control the operations and headspace sampling of 8 automated long-term chambers.

• The multiplexer extension manifold must be able to relay temperature and pressure measurements to the main LI8250 multiplexer for automated flux calculations from LI-COR 78xx Trace Gas Analyzers.

• The multiplexer extension manifold must contain network time protocol (NTP) server for time synchronization to the analyzer.

• All data files must be compatible with SoilFluxPro software for processing, evaluation, and visualization of soil gas flux data to allow easy editing, re-computation, and visualization in a single data package.

• The ability to automate 8 long-term chambers while using only one channel of the main LI-8250 multiplexer is required.

• Interoperability and shared data processing pipelines of required analyzer and long-term chambers with existing LI-78xx trace gas analyzers, LI-8250 multiplexer and survey chambers are a critical requirement of this requisition to ensure data consistency and quality across Network projects.

• The long-term chambers must be compatible with existing equipment (LI-7810 and LI-7820 trace gas analyzers) and provide for sampling in conjunction with 8” or greater diameter pvc collars.

• The chamber must provide for even mixing of the chamber headspace as it loops to the gas analyzer.

• The chamber must have the ability open and close automatically using an internal bellows pump.

• The chamber must include a compatible soil moisture and temperature probe and automatically link ancillary data with trace gas measurements. (separately specified in accessories below)

• The chamber must include an internal GPS.

• The chamber must include adjustable legs for deployment on uneven surfaces or slopes.

• The chamber exterior must be reflective white for soil respiration measurements.

• The chamber must contain a pressure vent to ensure the pressure between in the chamber and outside air is equal.

• The chamber must not close directly on the measurement collar to avoid perturbations in the sample.

• The chamber must include temperature and pressure measurements to enable onboard flux calculations from LI-COR 78xx Trace Gas Analyzers.

• The chamber must contain network time protocol (NTP) server for time synchronization to the analyzer.

• The chamber data files must be compatible with SoilFluxPro software for processing, evaluation, and visualization of soil gas flux data to allow easy editing, re-computation, and visualization in a single data package.

• The chamber must be accompanied by a 15 m cable assembly for gas and data transport that will allow re-circulating air flow and real-time data transfer between the analyzer and chamber.

• Interoperability and shared data processing pipelines of required analyzer and long-term chambers with existing LI-78xx trace gas analyzers, LI-8250 multiplexer and survey chambers are a critical requirement of this requisition to ensure data consistency and quality across Network projects.

• Qty: 7 long-term chambers

Accessories

• All accessories are fabricated as weatherproof.

• Additional 15 m cable assemblies are required to extend the distance for chamber placement to 30 m from the trace gas analyzers. These are compatible with the

Agricultural Research Service original cable assemblies of the long-term chambers that will allow re-circulating air flow and real-time data transfer between the analyzer and smart chamber (Qty: 14)

• Soil moisture and temperature probes must plug directly into each long-term chamber for proximal measurements. (Qty: 8)
