About this file
This document is a Special Packaging Instruction (SPI) for a military item identified as a MAST, with part/drawing number 913410 and national stock number 5985-01-598-5631 FD. The SPI specifies packaging requirements for this item using military preservation standards IAW MIL-STD-2073-1 with both serviceable and unserviceable methods at level 10. The item requires cleaning and drying per MIL-STD-2073-1 with no preservative application. Marking instructions follow IAW MIL-STD-129 and include special markings for SPI number F01-598-5631, identification of the container's identification side, and instructions regarding reusable containers and bottom lag bolt removal.
Two protection levels are specified: Level A provides the most severe worldwide shipment, handling, and storage protection for scenarios including war reserve material, mobilization, strategic and theater deployment, open storage, deck loading, and foreign military sales; Level B packing is standard unless otherwise directed by the procuring country. Both levels have identical gross weight specifications of 520 cubic feet and 520 weight pounds with design fragility rating G. The document includes detailed dimensional specifications for container interior dimensions, exterior dimensions, item dimensions, and item weight, along with a bill of materials listing twelve component parts with specific ASTM and specification requirements. Wood packaging material must comply with International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM No. 15) requirements, using debarked, heat-treated wood certified by an accredited agency recognized by the American Lumber Standards Committee.
