SOCKS, MEN'S, CUSHION SOLE, STRETCH TYPE
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description for all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense.
1 SCOPE.
This commercial item description covers the requirements for a wool, cotton and nylon cushion sole sock for use by all Departments and Agencies of the Department of Defense.
2. CLASSIFICATION.
2.1 Type. The socks shall be one type in the following classes:
Class 1- Black
Class 2- Olive Green
2.1.1 Sizes.

3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Description. The socks shall be seamless stretch type with a true 1X1 rib-knit top and plain knit leg and foot with a Terry of tuft stitch on the inside of the high heel, heel, sole, toe and ring toe. The top of the finished sock shall be finished with a well-defined, non-raveling welt, free from loose ends. The toes shall be closed by looping or seaming.
3.1.1 Material. The yarn used for knitting the top of the foot and leg portion adjacent to the high heel, and for plating the sock shall consist of a single end of merino yarn. The yarn shall be 1/30 worsted count made from fleece, pulled sheep's wool, or a combination of both, not lower in grade than 56's US standard, and cotton, blended so that the finished yarn contains no less than 50% wool on a dry weight basis. Core cotton yarn will not be acceptable. The merino yarn shall be twisted or plied with a nylon stretch yarn, using knitting twist. The nylon yarn shall be 140 denier +/- 5 percent, two ply stretch yarn. The top and leg portion above the high heel shall be knit using the merino blend yarn. The yarn for the terry stitch on the inside of the high heel, sole, toe and ring toe shall be made from wool not lower in grade than 50's US standard. The seaming thread shall be nylon, natural white, commercial size 4, 1or 2 denier spandex to 110 denier spandex core having a
40 denier raw nylon inner and outer cover. All of the wool for the finished sock shall be treated for shrink resistance.
3.2 Physical requirements. The socks shall conform to the requirements in accordance with Table I.

3.3 Measurements and Weight. The socks shall conform to the sizes and measurements as identified by the National Association of Hosiery Manufactures (NAHM), and the stretch and weight requirements in Table II. Extra-extra-small, Extra-small, Small, Medium, large and Extra large, may be abbreviated to XXSM, XSM, SM, MED, LG, and XLG.

1 Measure across a point between the bottom of the heel and bottom of rib top from the bottom of heel to the bottom of rib top.
2/ Measure across a point midway between heel and toe.
3.4 Label/marking. One sock from each pair shall have a size marking applied just below the instep and centered between the ankle and toe. The color of the marking shall be white. Each pair of socks shall have a commercial-type label containing the contractor’s name, contract number and National Stock Number
(NSN).
3.5 Washing instructions. Each pair of socks shall contain the following washing instructions:
Machine wash, warm water, no softener in either washer or dryer. Tumble dry warm.
3.6 Label/tag. All socks shall be banded in packages of three with an approved commercial band which includes the DLA Troop Support logo. Each band shall have a printed bar code or a bar code label attached to each item, clearly legible and readable by a scanner. The bar coding element shall be a 13 digit national stock number (NSN). The bar code type shall be a medium to high code density and shall be located so that it is completely visible on the item when it is folded and/or packaged as specified and so that it causes no damage to the item.
4 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS.
The offeror/contractor is encouraged to use recovered materials to the maximum extent practicable, in accordance with paragraph 23.403 of the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).
5 QUALITY ASSURANCE PROVISIONS
5.1 Product conformance. The products provided shall meet the salient characteristics of this commercial item description and conforms to the producer’s standards and quality assurance practices, and be the same product offered for sale in the commercial market. The Government reserves the right to require proof of such conformance.
5.2 Visual examination. Each sock shall be examined for the defects listed below:
Defects. Any hole, cut, or tear; any degree of degradation of the elastic top; any thin areas, mends, frayed, or raveled; color shall not have a heather effect; noticeable variation in shade between two socks of a pair; noticeable variation in size (length and width) in a pair; knit construction of sock not as specified; any spot or stain (outside); any run or drop stitches, including holes looping or seaming; any material defects, distorted parts or poor workmanship; any component part omitted;
marking missing, incorrect, or illegible; measurement of item not as specified; Non-uniform in appearance, bar code omitted or not readable by scanner; human-readable interpretation (HRI) omitted or illegible; bar code not visible on folded, packaged item; bar code causes damage to the item; any items not packaged in accordance with the contract or purchase order.
5.3 Acceptance criteria. Acceptance criteria shall be as specified in the contract or purchase order.
6. PACKAGING. The preservation, packing, and marking shall be as specified in the contract or order.
