About this file

This document contains detailed equipment requirements for an Expeditionary Kitchen Trailer (EKT) system being solicited by the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support Subsistence for use at Natick, MA. The EKT is specified as a 3-for-1 expandable container with an electro-mechanically raisable/lowerable roof in green color. The unit must provide a minimum of 120 square feet of floorspace when expanded, with internal storage height of 43 inches during transportation expanding to 78 inches during operation. The structure must deploy in under 6 minutes with two personnel using no tools, feature hard-sided construction when stowed and hard/soft-sided textile structure when deployed, and include two entry/egress doorways with integrated stairs. The container must be Berry Compliant and utilize MIL-PRF-44103D exterior waterproof fabric with insulated removable liner.

The EKT requires comprehensive environmental control and power systems including on-board electric heating (minimum 800W) and cooling (20,000 BTU/h), a 6KW integrated diesel heater, and roof-mounted solar panels (minimum 440 watts) to charge on-board battery systems. Power connectivity includes a standard NATO Slave Cable connection to JLTV DC output, integrated 24VDC/120VAC power inverter, and auxiliary 24VDC batteries. The unit must be equipped with a minimum 80-gallon insulated potable water tank, onboard water demand pump (3-5 GPM), quick-disconnect water connections, and cold water dispenser with flow control. Additional specifications include four-way forklift capability, interface module for JLTV cargo trailer attachment using JLTV camlocks, integrated 5-gallon fuel can storage rack, LED lighting with white and blackout green capabilities, exhaust ports with insect mitigation for ration heaters and cooking equipment, roof-mounted powered vent hood, and rubberized kitchen floor mats with drainage holes.
