SPECIFICATIONS, STANDARDS AND DRAWINGS LISTED HEREIN WHICH ARE IN EFFECT ON THE DATE OF THE SOLICITATION FORM A PART OF THIS PACKAGING INSTRUCTION. THE APPLICABLE GENERAL AND REFERENCED REQUIREMENTS OF SPECIFICATION MIL-STD-2073-1 FORM PART OF THESE INSTRUCTIONS. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, MATERIALS WILL BE MINIMUM SIZE IN ACCORDANCE WITH MIL-STD-2073-1. WEIGHTS AND SIZES ARE ESTIMATED AND MAY VARY SLIGHTLY.

TOLERANCES SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS. QUALITY PERFORMANCE AND TESTING REQUIREMENTS SHALL BE IN CONFORMANCE WITH MIL-STD-2073-1, OR AS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED.

* ITEMS SHALL BE CLEANED AND DRIED BY ANY PROCESS THAT IS NOT INJURIOUS TO THE ITEM. ALL ITEMS SHALL PASS THE

APPLICAL CLEANING AND DRYING INSPECTION REQUIREMENTS OF MIL –STD-2073-1.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

MATERIALS, METHODS, PROCESSES, AND PROCEDURES THAT ARE NOT SPECIFIED HERE SHALL CONFORM TO THE

REQUIREMENTS OF MIL-STD-2073-1.

ALL GUN COMPONENTS AND BASIC ISSUE ITEMS RECEIVED AS GOVERNMENT FURNISHED EQUIPMENT (GFE) PACKAGED AS SPECIFIED HEREIN SHALL NOT BE REPACKED. GFE COMPONENTS AND BASIC ITEMS NOT PACKAGED AS SPECIFIED

HEREIN SHALL BE REPACKAGED IN ACCORDENCE WITH BELOW REQUIREMENTS.

ITEMS PRESERVED USING BAGS CONSTRUCTED FROM NON –TOXIC ,TRANSPARENT ,POLYETHYLENE FILM HAVING A MULTI- METAL VOLATILE CORROSION INHIBITOR SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ARDEC DRAWING 13027484.

BAGS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED BY FOLDING ONE SHEET OF MATERIAL AND SHALL HAVE TWO SIDE SEAMS. SIDE SEAMS SHALL BE PARALLEL TO EACH OTHER AND TO THE OUTER EDGES OF THE BAG. THE BOTTOM FOLD SHALL BE AT RIGHT ANGLES TO THE SIDE OF THE SEAMS. FINAL CLOSURE SHALL BE A HEAT SEAL AT THE TOP OF THE BAG.

ALTERNATELY, BAGS CONSTRUCTED FROM TUBING SHALL HAVE HEAT SEAL AT THE BOTTOM OF THE BAG WITH FINAL

CLOSURE BEING A HEAT SEALED SEAM AT THE TOP EDGE OF THE BAG.

DETAILED PRESERVATION ,PACKAGING AND PACKING REQUIREMENTS

MATERIALS, METHODS, PROCESS AND PROCEDURES SPECIFIED HEREIN SHALL CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF MIL – STD-2073-1

1. CLEANING: THE MACHINE GUN SHALL BE DISASSEMBLED AS NECESSARY TO ACCOMPLISH THE REQUIRED CLEANING

SPECIFIED HEREIN AND IN THE OPERATOR’S MANUAL. ALL SURFACES SHALL BE CLEANED BY ANY APPLICABLE METHOD

WHICH DOES NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ITEM.

SPECIAL CLEANING (BURNED POWDER RESIDUE): SURFACES OF COMPONENTS SUBJECTED TO A BURNED POWDER RESIDUE SHALL BE SCRUBBED CLEAN WITH BRISTLE BRUSHES AND/OR SWABS SATURATED WITH RIFLE BORE CLEANER CONFORMING

TO MIL-PRF-372. FLUSH THE SCRUB SURFACES WITH MIL-PRF- 680 SOLVENT

SPECIAL CLEANING OF EXTRACTOR: EACH ITEM SHALL BE CLEANED WITH MIL-PRF-680 SOLVENT FOLLOWED BY A RINSE IN A CLEAN

SOLVENT PRIOR TO PACKAGING.

EXCESS OIL SHALL BE THOROUGHLY DRAINED FROM COATED SURFACES. PRESERVED MACHINE GUN SHALL BE ALLOWED TO DRY FOR A MINIMUM OF ONE (1) HOUR PRIOR TO UNIT PACK. LUBRICANTS CONTAMINATED OR REMOVED DURING THE CLEANING PROCESS SHALL BE REAPPLIED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE APPLICABLE

DRAWING REQUIREMENTS.

DETAILED OPERATIONS

OPERATION #

1. Place each barrel into barrel bag and heat seal. (SEE PHOTO Pg. 10)

2. Place each bagged barrel into fiber tube and seal ends with ASTM D5486 tape.

3. Wrap receiver tightly in MIL-PRF-22019 material and secure material with tape. (SEE PHOTO Pg. 10)

4. Place bottom foam support assembly into inner container with receiver end butted firmly to left end of container and side of assembly firmly to one side to allow placement of packaged barrels on one side. (SEE PHOTO Pg. 11)

5. As applicable, place manual and mitten into center of bottom support assembly.

(Prepackaged items need not be repackaged before placement into pack.) (SEE PHOTO Pg. 11)

6. Place wrapped receiver into formed receiver section of bottom support assembly. (SEE PHOTO Pg. 12)

7. Stack tubes containing barrels into container between container wall and support assembly. (SEE PHOTO Pg. 12)

8. As applicable, place ruptured case extractor and Handle Assembly into BII container and tape closed. Place BII container into bottom support assembly. (SEE PHTO Pg. 12)

9. Insert inner container into MIL-PRF-131K, Class 1, barrier bag. Partially heat seal open end. Exhaust air with vacuum source and complete heat seal. (SEE PHOTO Pg.12)

10. Place sealed inner container into outer container and seal all seams with ASTM D5486 tape. Insure proper labeling and marking in accordance with this instruction and MIL STD 129.

SPECIAL MARKING

A) SERIAL NUMBER: SERIAL NUMBER MARKING IS REQUIRED AND SHALL BE LISTED ON THE BAR COD LABELS.

B) BAR CODE LABELS: ONE ADDITIONAL BAR CODE LABEL WILL BE LOCATED ON THE OUTBOARD SIDE OF EACH SHIPPING CONTAINER AFTER CONTAINERS ARE PALLETIZED, ALLOWING THE NATIONAL STOCK NUMBER AND GUN SERIAL NUMBER TO BE

READ WITH OUT HAVING TO UNLOAD FROM PALLETIZED LOAD.

C) INNER AND OUTER CONTAINERS SHALL BE MARKED ON TOP SURFACE IN MINIMUM ONE HALF INCH TEXT AS FOLLOWS:

“REUSABLE PACKAGING- DO NOT DESTROY” AND “ TO OPEN-CUT TAPE ONLY ALONG TOP TAPE SEAMS”

PALLETIZATION: Palletize 15 containers per 72” x 48” heat treated wood pallet and secure with stretch wrap.

(SEE PHOTO Pg. 13) In accordance with the requirements of International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) 15, the following commercial heat treatment process has been approved by the American Lumber Standards Committee (ALSC) and is required for all Wood Packaging Material (WPM). WPM is defined as wood pallets, skids, load boards, pallet collars, wooden boxes, reels, dunnage, crates, frames, and cleats. Packaging materials exempt from the requirements are materials that have undergone a manufacturing process such as corrugated fiberboard, plywood, particleboard, veneer and oriented strand board. All WPM shall be constructed from Heat Treated (HT to 56 degrees Centigrade for 30 minutes) lumber and certified by an accredited agency recognized by the ALSC in accordance with Wood Packaging Material Policy and Wood Packaging Material Enforcement Regulations (see URL: http://www.alsc.org). All materials must include certification markings in accordance with ALSC standards and be placed in an unobstructed area that will be readily visible to inspectors. Pallet markings shall be applied to the stringer or block on diagonally opposite sides and ends of the pallet and be contrasting and clearly visible. All dunnage used in configuring and/or securing the load shall also comply with ISPM 15 and be marked with an ALSC approved DUNNAGE stamp. Failure to comply with the requirements of this restriction may result in refusal, destruction, or treatment of materials at the point of entry.”
