STATEMENT OF WORK
Equipment Functional Requirement: Stand-alone system capable of accomplishing in automated fashion all of the tasks specified in ASTM International test procedure D 5972, paragraphs 4.1, 10.6 and 10.7. The system must be capable of accomplishing all of these tasks for a range of jet fuel grades including JP5, JP8, Jet A-1, Jet A and JPTS. In particular, the instrument is capable of robotically:
1. Cooling the sample at a rate of 15 +/- 5 degrees C per minute by a Peltier device until first formation of hydrocarbon crystals is detected by optical sensors.
2. Re-warming the sample, using the same Peltier device, at a rate of 10 +/- 0.5 degrees C per minute until the last hydrocarbon crystals return to the liquid phase, as detected by optical sensors.
3. Continuously monitoring and displaying the temperature of the sample.
4. Establishing and recording temperature at which the last hydrocarbon crystals disappear.
5. Automatically terminating sample warming/cooling operations after re-warming of the sample causes all crystals to disappear.
6. Storing all freezing point results from previous 1000 test analyses in instrument memory.
7. Achieving repeatability prescribed in the test method. In other words, when the same sample is analyzed twice using the robotic instrument, the freezing point results obtained on the first and second test run will differ by no more than the limits specified in ASTM method D 5972, paragraph 12.1.
8. Accomplishing the above using <=0.50 milliliters (mL) of sample, taking into account required rinse portions.
Equipment Utilities Requirement: Instrument shall be powered by 230V, 50 Hertz electrical power. No other utilities shall be required.
Equipment Dimensions: Width of the instrument shall not exceed 22”, depth of the instrument shall not exceed 14” to allow bench-top placement of the unit. Footprint of the instrument shall not exceed 285 square inches in order to conserve bench space.
Delivery, Installation and Set-up Requirement: Single piece of automated test equipment capable of conducting testing satisfying functional requirement identified above shall be delivered door to door to the DLA Energy Europe & Africa laboratory located in Kaiserslautern, Germany. Vendor shall install and set up the equipment at customer site to verify correct operation.
