PROJECT: XGFG 232001

1.0 SUMMARY

The Government has a requirement to clean-up and restore a specific site within the area of the Hiawatha National Forest located in Delta County, Michigan Upper Peninsula in accordance with current environmental laws and the U.S.

Forest Service; all as shown in the report titled Remedial Investigation Report:

Aircraft Mishap Site Hiawatha National Forest Delta County, Michigan Project:

XGFG212004, specified herein and determined by analytical findings.

The purpose is for the government to obtain “Certificate of Completion” or “No Further Action” response from the Michigan Department of Environmental, Great Lakes and Energy (MI-EGLE) and restore the site to natural conditions to the satisfaction of the United States Forest Service (USFS).

SAMPLING: After excavation, two discrete soil samples will be collected from each boring at depths of: one 1-2 feet below ground surface and one at the excavation surface. If groundwater is encountered two samples are required.

One at the surface and one 1 foot above the water table; if groundwater is not encountered one sample will be taken 1 foot above the water table. The three sample locations are the areas identified in the report Remedial Investigation Report:

Aircraft Mishap Site Hiawatha National Forest Delta County, Michigan Project:

XGFG212004 as having exceeded the State of Michigan standards for VOC contaminants.

ANALYSIS: All soil and groundwater samples will be analyzed at an approved lab to conduct “Petroleum Volatile Organic Compounds” or PVOCs analysis.

QA/QC requirements will be laboratory specific.

The contractor may move freely in compliance with stated requirements throughout the site property but only to-and-from and within the project limits as determined by the contract.
