About this file

This Statement of Work (SOW) details emergency vehicle marking standards for the Intermountain Region Fire & Aviation, establishing a comprehensive identification system for fire management vehicles. The document provides a structured approach to vehicle identification, including agency and organization identifiers, equipment categorization, and a detailed numbering sequence for various vehicle types such as engines, water tenders, crew carriers, and specialized units like helitack and prevention vehicles.

The marking system uses a standardized format of AA-BBB-WXYZ, where AA represents the state, BBB represents the forest designator, W indicates equipment category, X represents equipment type, Y denotes the district, and Z identifies the specific equipment number. Examples include a Type 4 engine marked as UT-FIF-E411 (Utah, Fishlake National Forest, Engine, Type 4, District 1, Engine 1) and a chase vehicle marked as UT-FIF-UT411. The objectives include rapid identification of emergency vehicles, quick recognition of rank and agency, maintaining a professional organizational appearance, and creating a consistent nomenclature across local, unit, state, and geographic boundaries.
