About this file
This Statement of Work (SOW) details the United States Air Force Air Demonstration Squadron's (USAFADS) requirement for winter training airfield rental from 2026-2030. The contractor must provide a location with specific requirements including a 7,000ft minimum runway, 6,000 square miles of restricted airspace, low population density, and favorable climate conditions for conducting 16-day training operations in January each year. The location must accommodate 70-75 personnel, provide hangar space for 9 aircraft, offer fuel trucks, deliver approximately 1.5 million pounds of jet fuel, and ensure dedicated airfield access with guaranteed 48 total sorties for Thunderbird pilots to complete formation and single-ship training necessary for public demonstration certification.
Key facility specifications include 24/7 access, mobile offices, internet/Wi-Fi, crash recovery and fire response teams, restrooms, catering space, and proximity to a military F-16 base for maintenance support. The contractor must maintain site security, comply with FAA guidelines, and ensure the location has relatively flat terrain with minimal precipitation and at least 9 hours of civil daylight. The training enables new Thunderbird pilots to become certified by the Commander, Air Combat Command, to perform public demonstrations per ACCI 11-245 operational procedures.
