SCOPE OF WORK
Solar Panel Removal Bldg. 69 McNair
1. Background
The roof of Building 69 at Fort McNair is at the end of its service life and requires full replacement. The roof consists of multiple levels and currently supports a distributed solar photovoltaic (PV) system. The PV system serving Building 69 has a total capacity of 147.7 kWdc / 133.2 kWac and consists of 422 modules and 4 inverters located in the Electrical Room, along with associated DC wiring and racking.
The solar arrays are situated in four separate locations on the roof, all tied into the same system. To facilitate the roofing replacement, the solar panels and all associated components (including racking and DC wiring, as required) will be removed and reinstalled in coordination with the roofing phasing. The roofing replacement is anticipated to take approximately nine months to complete.
Due to the distributed layout of the arrays, panel removal will be phased over multiple crane days. Prior to each crane operation, the panels will be electrically disconnected, removed from their racking, and palletized in predetermined staging locations on the roof, as identified and approved by the Structural Engineer.
A similar phased process will be used for reinstallation. The crane will place palletized modules in predetermined locations on the roof, after which the pallets will be broken down and the modules, racking, and wiring reinstalled and reconnected in accordance with design documents and applicable codes.
