Contractor shall provide air-testing services if required. For the purpose of an annual service, it will be assumed that the compressor will be fully operational. Any repairs will be indicated in a report to the fire department for future service. Oil and filter would be include.

5 Confined Space

a. Confined Space Equipment Testing: Confined space equipment’s will be inspected, tested, maintained, and recertified in accordance with NFPA 350, "Guide for Safe Confined Space Entry and Work", NFPA 1936, "Standard on powered Rescue Tools", and NFPA 1989, "Standard on Breathing Air Quality for Emergency Services Respiratory Protection". Service shall be conducted on-site and will include the inventory of all the systems, locations, and dates on supply and hoses.

Every part will be thoroughly inspected, and necessary repairs will be completed either on-site if possible, or coordinated for future repair. Breathing valve will be tested and set for automatic positive pressure, opening pressure, positive pressure, by-pass function, relief valve pressure, and leak test. Furthermore, the servicing of the breathing valve must include the positive pressure attachment, valve housing assembly, valve insert with breathing hose, and different adjustments of breathing valve. The regulator unit tested and adjusted, and the recordings will be noted for secondary pressure, sealing pressure, relief valve, warning pressure, function and sealing tightness.

b. Further servicing of the regulator unit includes the cylinder valve connection, pressure regulator mechanism, supply hose, high-pressure hose, pressure gauge, quick coupling connection, warning whistle. Servicing of the harness and cylinder pouch systems includes adjusting the cylinder strap assembly and the cylinder bracket assembly. Servicing of the cylinder assembly includes the hand-wheel mechanism and pressure gauge safety device. Tools required for successful annual inspection and servicing include the SCBA Service Kit and Posicheck III.

c. Air Car Testing: The Air Source cart for confined space hoses will be inspected, tested, maintained, and recertified for all of its components that includes the batteries and full electronic testing of pressure sensitive alarm system. If not the case and the test pit is not available, alternate options will be acceptable such as drafting methods. All environmental conditions shall be within the parameters. All efforts will be made to prevent foam discharge to the environment and reports will be made immediately if a foam discharge is made to the environment. When required, the contractor will provide the intake hoses, strainers, suction hoses, discharge hoses and determination will be made that the intake gauge pressure is minimum 20 psi. Technicians will ensure that all hoses are marked to prevent the coupling-hose separation going unnoticed. All the measuring devices will meet NFPA requirements, and all gauges will be of grade A as defined in ASME B 40.1, or calibrated digital gauges shall be utilized. All test results will be recorded along with the environmental conditions such as the air temperatures, water temperatures, vertical lifts, the elevation of the test site, and the atmospheric pressure of the test site. The readings shall be recorded in increments of two hours to ensure uniformity and accuracy. Vacuum tests shall be conducted on all pumping units. Pressure control tests on all pumps shall also be conducted. Pressure gauges, vacuum gauges and flow meters on board pumping units, vehicles and fire trucks will be checked for accuracy. If the gauges are damaged and/or in repair, they can either be replaced or returned to the contractor. Should any of the apparatus be equipped with a water tank, then the tank to pump flow rate shall be checked as per NFPA 1911 3-3.7. The contractor will ensure that the engines, pumps and transmissions on all vehicles and all pumping apparatus shall not overheat or perform poorly in any way during the period of time required to conduct these tests. NOTE: Testing of the pump at draft is a preferable method.

However, if this is not possible these tests can be performed from a hydrant or alternate source. It is important due to the variables and parameters required for this kind of testing those communications be established between the technicians and department prior to commencement of testing.

b. ARFF Time & Distance: The ARFF vehicles will be retrofitted/fitted with a system to allow testing without Foam discharge. No foam testing will be done. Time and distance tests will be conducted to ARFF vehicles below for checking the water flow of all the turrets according to NFPA 412. However, foam will not be flown, only water will be flown. Condition of water flow, disbursement of pattern, and the distance the water reaches will be analyzed. Maintenance will be made to the turrets and repairs will be suggested.
