About this file

This is a Statement of Work (SOW) for Ground Recording System (GRS) Calibrations issued by NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center (now Armstrong Flight Research Center) in Edwards, California.

The procurement requires calibration services for 25 ground recording system data acquisition (DAQ) components to ISO 17025 standards. These systems support NASA's Quesst mission, which uses the X-59 aircraft to conduct supersonic flight tests that measure sonic boom levels on the ground. The contractor must deliver 25 calibrated ground recording systems and provide calibration reports for each unit. The period of performance is 30 days after contract award. The specified deliverable is a Technology Service Agreement (TAS) that includes software updates, hardware repairs, and ISO 17025 factory calibration with data, priced on a per-unit basis. The TAS agreement term is one year, with units required to be returned one time for calibration (one calibration per unit per term). If the TAS is purchased prior to expiration of an existing agreement, the new one-year term is added to the current term. The TAS is an opt-in program based on order placement with no automatic enrollment after the agreement term expires. Hardware repair coverage excludes replacement for units deemed beyond economic repair (BER). No travel is required under this contract.

1.0 Background

The NASA Quesst mission has built an aircraft capable of flying at supersonic speeds without making a loud sonic boom on the ground. This aircraft, the NASA X-59, will be used to conduct tests at Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC) and at select cities across the continental USA. These tests require that the X-59 aircraft’s sonic boom be measured using NASA ground recording systems (GRS). Up to 125 GRS will be deployed for each test.

For NASA to conduct Quesst mission tests effectively, the GRS need to be calibrated to ISO 17025 standards.

2.0 Objectives

Purchase a ground recording system (GRS) calibration contract. This contract will

Sonic boom measurement instrumentation must be calibrated to ensure its measurements remain accurate, reliable, and traceable to known standards. Regular calibration helps identify drift, wear, or environmental effects that can introduce errors and compromise data quality.

3.0 Requirements

Calibrate the data acquisition components (DAQ) of the NASA ground recording systems to ISO 17025 standards.
