PROJECT TITLE: Purchase Hydraulic Thumb for Excavator
PROJECT NARRATIVE:
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) maintains a work unit in Pawnee, Illinois known as the Heavy Equipment Crew or HEC. The HEC consists of one site supervisor who handles all scheduling, purchasing, and personnel operations, and five (5) power shovel operators who operate the equipment and do most of the work. In addition, the HEC has an Engineering Technician in Springfield who evaluates work requests from the field staff, performs calculations to determine quantities for materials and supplies, and coordinates all construction projects performed by the operators.
The HEC maintains a wide variety of equipment in Pawnee ranging from large pieces of equipment such as bull dozers, excavators, graders, and dredges, down to smaller equipment such as pumps, blades, augers, and box scrapers. This equipment is used state-wide to construct waterfowl levees, dams, install culverts, clean-out ditches, construct horse trails, repair roadways, and remove invasive vegetation. From time to time, new equipment is needed to replace old or damaged equipment, or to expand the capabilities of the HEC.
SCOPE OF WORK:
The HEC needs a Hydraulic Thumb which is an attachment on the end of an excavator. The hydraulic thumb will allow the excavator operator to grab onto tree trunks, boulders, poles, or structures which need to be relocated. The hydraulic thumb will be very valuable during demolition projects and clearing projects. It will also be helpful to move smaller equipment such as tanks, pumps and generators around the yard at Pawnee or at a job site.
