C. Structural System
Openings on Existing Roof:
1) The roof structure will need to be opened for MEP penetrations.
2) The penetrations will be reinforced with supplemental steel as required.
D. Existing Structure
1) The required design load for the new renovation is considered the same design load as the original structural design (per the existing dwgs) therefore the existing floor structure is adequate for the renovation.
2) The existing roof system is verified and found not to have adequate capacity to support the additional HVAC unit load. Thus, the AHU will be supported by an independent dunnage frame.
E. AHU Support Structure:
1) The AHU and CU will be placed on top of an existing roof. However, the current roof structure is not strong enough to hold the new units, so an independent supporting system - dunnage is being used. The AHU is mounted on the dunnage, which is supported by four posts. These posts will be anchored to piers that are being installed by creating temporary openings in the first-floor slab. The posts of the dunnage will be secured to the piers under the first-floor slab using baseplates. The posts of the dunnage will also be embedded in the new partition wall. Reinforcements will be added to the roof penetrations to transfer the lateral load of the dunnage to the roof framing.
1) A grating will be installed in the service area surrounding the condensing unit on the dunnage. Stairs will be located at the west end of the platform and two ladders will be placed on the northeast and southeast corner to provide access to the platform. Handrails will be installed around the platform for safety.
F. MEP Supports:
1) Per IBC 2021, the seismic design category has been calculated as Category B.
Per Department of Veterans Affairs Seismic Design Requirements H-18-8, dated October 2016, MEP equipment and MEP lines (piping, ductwork, etc.) need to be
MILLER-REMICK LLC 2-5 CHERRY HILL, NEW JERSEY
braced to resist seismic forces and excessive deflections for projects in all new As the SDC of the project is B, seismic bracing is not required.
G. Structural Materials:
1) Steel

General - R410A All air-cooled condensing units shall have scroll compressors and are factory assembled and wired.
Each unit shall ship from the factory with a nitrogen holding charge. Units shall be constructed of 14-gauge welded galvanized steel frame with 14 and 16-gauge galvanized steel panels and access doors. Units shall have factory mounted, louvered, full-length steel grilles to protect the condenser coils and piping. Unit surface shall be phosphatized and finished with an air-dry paint. This air-dry paint finish shall be durable enough to withstand a minimum of 672-consecutive-hour salt spray application in accordance with standard ASTM B117.
Compressor - R-410A Trane 3-D Scroll compressors have simple mechanical design with only three (3) major moving parts.
Scroll type compression provides inherently low vibration. 3-D compressors provide a completely enclosed compression chamber with no leakage paths. The compressor is suction gas cooled, direct drive, 3600 RPM hermetic motors. The Scroll compressor includes a centrifugal oil pump, oil level sight glass, and an oil charging valve.
Refrigerant Management - R-410A Split systems can have significantly more refrigerant than packaged systems and thus require controls to reliably manage this excess refrigerant. Each compressor shall have crankcase heaters installed, properly sized to minimize the amount of liquid refrigerant present in the oil sump during off cycles.
Additionally, the condensing unit shall have controls to initiate refrigerant isolation at system shut down on each refrigerant circuit. To be operational, the refrigerant isolation cycle requires a field-installed isolation solenoid valve on the common liquid line near the evaporator.
Note: Under extreme conditions, R410a refrigerant can present special challenges with piping and system design. Whenever refrigerant line set lengths approach 150 equivalent feet and/or design ambient temperature exceeds 115 degrees F, contact your Trane Account Executive to review application requirements.
Condenser Fan and Motors - R-410A Vertical discharge direct-drive fans are statically and dynamically balanced. Fan motors are three-phase with permanently lubricated ball bearings, built-in current and thermal overload protection.
Microchannel Condenser Coil -l R410A Condenser coils are dual circuit having an all Aluminum Microchannel design. The coils are burst tested and leak tested. Factory installed liquid line service valves are standard.
Refrigerant Circuit - R410A Each unit has two independent refrigeration circuits with 3 compressors per circuit piped in parallel. Six step capacity control is accomplished through compressor cycling.
Unit Control - R410A Factory-provided 115-volt control circuit includes fusing and control power transformer. The unit is wired with magnetic contactors for compressor and condenser motors. Three-leg circuit breakers are used for overload and short circuit protections. The unit also has high/low pressure cutouts. Charge isolation, reset relay and anti-recycle compressor timer is provided. Across- the- line start is standard.
Supply Air Variable Air Volume Control - R410A Supply air VAV includes a multi-step, demand oriented, microprocessor-based Honeywell W7100 discharge air controller. W7100 control is designed for shut-off VAV systems. Average discharge air temperature is maintained by modulating an economizer and if needed, simultaneously sequencing stages of mechanical cooling. Field installation of the factory supplied discharge air sensor is required.
Low Ambient Control - R410A Low ambient option extends unit operation from 40 F to 0 F [4.5 to -17.8 C] by utilizing an external damper assembly for head pressure control.
Hot Gas Bypass Valve R-410A Hot gas bypass valves will be shipped with the unit for field installation (Model: Sporlan, SHGBE-8).

Spring Isolators - R410A Steel spring vibration isolators are supplied, for field installation under the unit, to reduce transmission of vibration to building structure and adjacent areas.
Pressure Gauges - R-410A Pressure gauges are provided for monitoring suction and discharge pressure. One set is provided for each circuit. The gauges are ship-with for field installation.
Suction Service Valves - R410A This valve is provided in order to isolate the compressor for servicing. This valve is a refrigerant shut off valve.
Powered convenience outlet - R410A This 15 amp., 115 volt ground fault interrupter convenience outlet is factory installed, with a single point power entry from a factory mounted transformer. It meets NEC 210-63 requirements. This outlet includes a separate disconnect switch so that the outlet is powered when the unit disconnect switch is off. The unit mounted non-fused disconnect switch option with external handle is required when ordering the convenience outlet.
Field Installed; 15% Bleed Valve TXV Installation shall require use of 15% bleed, Thermal Expansion Valves. Valves shall be field supplied and field installed. Quantity and size shall be determined by the application.
. Trim solenoids cannot be used.
