About this file

This document is a Statement of Work (SOW) for a vinyl anaerobic chamber with gas infuser and analyzer. The Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Research Laboratory has a requirement for this equipment to perform microbiome testing as part of research on public health and the US armed forces. Key requirements include a chamber size of at least 98"L x 38"D, two sets of glove ports, quick-change glove system, ability to operate below 5 ppm O2, temperature and humidity control, air lock, multiple gas mixtures, incubator, co-culture chamber, HEPA filtration, gas infuser, and anaerobic gas analyzer. The related federal contract opportunity is Solicitation Number COMBO-AFRL-PZLEQ-2024-0007 for the USAFSAM/PHT Vinyl Anaerobic Chamber with gas infuser, with a response due date of 8 February 2024.

Statement of Work

Vinyl Anaerobic Chamber with Gas Analyzer

8 February 2024

Background & Scope: PHT requires a new capability to perform research on microbiome communities and their impact on public health and the US armed forces. A vinyl anaerobic chamber with gas infuser is required to perform microbiome testing as most microbial communities survive only within closely controlled atmospheric and temperature conditions. PHT does not currently have this capability.

Requirements/Salient Characteristics:

• Chamber size shall be at least 98”L X 38”D.

• Shall include two sets of glove ports to allow two technicians to work at the same time.

• Shall include a quick-change system that allows the gloves to be changed without affecting the internal atmosphere of the chamber.

• Chamber shall be able to operate at an atmosphere below 5 ppm O2.

• Shall include temperature sensor utilizing 2 separate temperature sensors.

• Shall include automatic air lock with sliding shelf, lights and audible alarm for low gas conditions and a manual backup in the event of a system failure.

• Chamber shall be capable of multiple gas mixtures.

• Shall include 2 gas regulators to control gas flow inside the chamber.

• Shall include internal plugs.

• Shall include a vacuum pump to support culture activities.

• Shall include a minimum of 5 Feed-Thrus to allow electrical cables and tubes to enter/exit the chamber.

• Shall include a dehumidifier to control humidity levels inside the chamber.

• Shall include incubator inside the chamber that fits at least 350 x 100mm culture plates.

• Shall include co-culture chamber inside chamber.

• Shall include a means to remove Hydrogen Sulfide from inside the chamber.

• Shall include HEPA filtration system.

• Shall include gas infuser to control the gas mix entering the chamber. (7/8/17)

• Shall include anaerobic gas analyzer to monitor atmospheric conditions (Oxygen as low as 0 ppm and Hydrogen as low as 1%) inside the chamber. Device shall include an audible alarm. Device Oxygen sensing shall not be affected by other gases.

• Shall include equipment entry port independent of airlock, with at least a 27-inch opening.

• Shall include a gas leak detector.

• Shall include on-site installation.
