FBO Post Title: Request for Interested Vendors to Overhaul Transmission Assembly UH-1N

SUBJECT:

Market research is being conducted to identify potential sources that may possess the expertise, capabilities, and experience to meet the requirements for qualification and overhaul of the Transmission Assembly applicable to the UH-1N helicopter.

ITEM DESCRIPTION:

National Stock Number Part Number Noun Tech Order 1615-01-061-6615GA 212-040-001-111 Transmission Assembly 3R7-2-6-3

The Transmission Assembly, NSN 1615-01-061-6615GA, is a flight safety critical item and provides a drive angle change and speed reduction from the engine to the main rotor. This is accomplished through spiral bevel gears and two stage planetary gears. Secondary gear trains drive the tail rotor brake drive quill. The transmission main input quill incorporates a one-way clutch which permits the transmission and the components that it drives to overrun the engine and main driveshaft. This provides for a free drive system during auto rotation. The Transmission Assembly is vital to the on-going combat search and rescue operations which rescue downed crewmembers in diverse and hostile combat environments as well as adverse, inclement weather conditions.

IMPEDIMENT TO COMPETITION:

This NSN is critical safety of flight and will need the prequalification.

Potential bidders require engineering source approval by the control activity to assure integrity of the part. Alternative sources must qualify by submitting a Source Approval Request (SAR) according to the design control activity’s procedures, AFMCI23-113, and receive approval from the applicable government engineering activity, AFLCMC/WIUED (Rotary Wing Systems and Integrity Engineering Section).

INTEREST

The AFSC/PZAAA Contracting Office intends to compete this contract among qualified sources.
