About this file

This document contains a performance monitoring report and a related federal contract opportunity notice. The performance monitoring report provides quarterly updates on a technical assistance project in Ghana supporting the Feed the Future initiative. It indicates progress made towards targets for increasing exports of agricultural products from Ghana to the EU, reducing rejections and interceptions at ports, developing a national traceability system, and improving collaboration between the Ghanaian Ministry of Food and Agriculture and other stakeholders. The related federal contract opportunity is a solicitation from USAID seeking proposals for a Cost-Plus-Fixed-Fee Completion contract up to $37 million over five years to provide technical assistance and support to USAID/Ghana's Economic Growth Office for their Feed the Future Ghana Trade and Investment Activity. The purpose of this activity is to improve Ghana's enabling environment for economic growth and agriculture through various initiatives including facilitating export trade, improving product standards, catalyzing investment, and promoting job creation and economic diversification.

Custom 1Volume (MT) of exports of targeted ag products that do not have a voluntary ban07,314 MT-14134233564Initially, IFSSP operated with the assumption that the ban might be lifted in 2017. However, the ban was not lifted until January 2018 and, therefore, exporters were only able to start exporting chili peppers starting in January 2018. Additionally, as a result of the stringent measures put in place by PPRSD, not all previous chili pepper exporters have been accredited to export again at the moment. Many exporters and farmers are still in the process of organizing to re-enter the chili market. As a result, chili pepper export figures are still low.

In addition, export data for the Kotoka International Airpot exit point, the main point for fresh fruits and vegetables, is not available for August 2018.

There have been no interceptions of Mangifera indica (mango) or Capsicum (chili) in FY 2017 and FY 2018. The interceptios reported are mainly for vegetables. The data covers the period October 2017 - September 2018. Please note that only interceptions as a result of harmful organisms are counted for this indicator. The EU Interception reports categorize reasons for interceptions into two: “Number of interceptions where harmful organisms were detected” and “Interceptions of commodities from Third Countries for reasons other than presence of harmful organisms”. A draft of the manual has been piloted through a 4-month long Training of Trainers with Extension officers in the Central Region of Ghana. The manual is curretly undergoing revision.
