ASG-AB41500 Drives Systems

The Gleason Works' KISSsoft Gearbox Modeling Software

A. Background

The US Navy ASG-AB41500 Drives Systems Group is seeking to renew our maintenance contract for our gearbox modeling software, KISSsoft. The software is used to evaluate fixed wing and rotorcraft geared drive systems to address new gearbox designs and fleet reliability issues. Having system level gearbox analysis software provides the Drives Systems Group methods to internally assess new product designs or improvements proposed by various aerospace OEMs reducing the reliance on OEM analysis for design validation.

Internal gearbox analysis capability shortens the time it takes for new improvements and design concepts to transition to fleet applications.

Gleason's KISSsoft modeling software has been found to be an available COTS software program capable of rapid analysis of system level gearbox interactions, including integral analysis of bevel gear micro geometry modifications with loaded tooth contact analysis which does not require a finite element solver to execute, reducing computational needs, decreasing model execution time requirements, and permits quick comparisons to modifications made within a model for assessment.

B. Technical Requirements

1. Software Requirements

a. Ability to create a system level model of a gearbox including shafts, bearings, gears, and housing.

b. Calculate gearbox performance parameters for all shaft, bearings, and gears in accordance with AGMA, ISO, DIN, VDI industry standards.

c. Perform Loaded Tooth Contact Analysis (LTCA) internally within the program without the requirement for an external software interface for spur, helical, planetary, and bevel gear applications.

d. Average computation times for multi-axis gearboxes which involves Loaded Tooth Contact Analysis of spur, helical, and bevel gear sets to output results in a time not to exceed 5 minutes.

e. Optimization tools to permit gear tooth profile and micro-geometry modifications within the program, without a requirement for external software interfaces, to optimize spur, helical, and bevel gear tooth geometries.

f. Ability to import CMM or other grid measurement data from gear tooth into software for model generation of gear tooth geometry.

g. Ability to represent gearbox models in both 2D and 3D representation and graphically present the results.

h. Ability to report all results and analysis in tabular report format.

i. Able to export model files with shaft and gear geometry via STEP or other standardized format for external FE analysis.

j. Ability to import stiffness matrices into the software from external FE tools to integrate housing influences within a gearbox model.

k. Calculate gear train efficiency and associated losses of modeled gear system.

l. Ability to perform shaft modal analysis of the system by taking stiffness effects within the gearbox model and output torsional and coupled vibrations thru Campbell diagram plots.

m. Calculate and graphically display the deformation of the gear system under load including all displacements and moments about the X, Y, and Z axis.

n. Able to model systems comprised of multiple shafts and gears including multi-stage planetary systems.

o. Include a pre-defined materials library in accordance with industry standards (AGMA, ISO) and allow the import of custom gear, shaft, and bearing materials without the need for third party software.

2. Accessibility

a. Single node locked license installed on a single standalone machine with Windows 10 64-bit compatibility. Network connectivity is not necessary for software functionality.

3. Warranty/Maintenance

a. One year of product support and maintenance.
