GYC Grizzly Bear Campground

Infrastructure Phase II Project

1.1 Background

The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE) Forests, Beaverhead-Deerlodge, Bridger-Teton, Caribou- Targhee, Custer-Gallatin, and the Shoshone National Forest completed Phase I of the grizzly bear campground infrastructure project (14-CO-11040300-056) in 2019. The purpose of the effort was to install campground infrastructure needed across 164 campgrounds, including attractant storage boxes, dumpsters, gates, and kiosks to reduce the risk of human/grizzly bear conflicts in developed campgrounds within occupied grizzly bear habitat. Since that effort was completed, additional infrastructure needs across the GYE forests have been identified (See Table 1 in 13.1) leading to this agreement supporting Phase II of this project. The Phase II partnership between the Forest Service and Greater Yellowstone Coalition (GYC) involves purchasing materials and supplies that will be utilized across the GYE but specifically on the Caribou-Targhee, the Bridger-Teton and the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forests with the current agreement that was signed in 2024 (CO-011041500-063).
