5. Reasons for Authority Cited:

Sole Source is required in this action because the vendor has shown to be the only available source of service. The sophistication and proprietary nature of maintenance components require the OEM to provide certified maintenance to ensure fabricated parts external to the DoD. Failure to maintain performance certification will limit DEVCOM support day-to-day mission requirements required by DEVCOM SC.

7. Market Research: Other members of the Advanced Manufacturing Community of Practice as well as members of the PIF Council have been contacted with regards to their maintenance strategy for identical equipment. The consensus is that the manufacturer, Stratasys, is the only company that can provide certified maintenance due to the sophistication of the equipment and proprietary components used.

Industry representatives, at various trade shows for Additive Manufacturing, were queried as to the ability to service Stratasys equipment. The consensus was that no vendor can offer certified maintenance on industrial Stratasys equipment such as the 450mc and Objet500.
