About this file
This document is a Sole Source Information file from the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) requesting a sole source procurement for a Retroreflectometer Unit (MRU) - RetroTek-D. The MRU is needed due to recent minimum retroreflectivity requirements for pavement marking materials set by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The RetroTek-D unit is the only unit capable of measuring retroreflectivity of pavement markings across the full width of the lane traveled in one pass at all traffic speeds in both day and night. RetroTek USA, Inc. is the sole provider of the RetroTek-D Retroreflectometer MRU and does not sell to any suppliers. MDOT has negotiated with the vendor to obtain the best price possible for the RetroTek-D unit. Those wishing to object to this sole source procurement should submit a detailed explanation on the Objection to Sole Source Determination (OSS) form to MDOT Procurement Division.
The price for the RetroTek-D unit from RetroTek USA, Inc. is felt to be reasonable based on the quote provided to MDOT. MDOT has also run an ad in the local newspaper and entered an RFIN into the MAGIC portal to obtain as much information as possible on the availability and pricing of the item. No other funding requirements or sources are specified in the document.
