Version 11-30-2016-1 FAR Part 11—Describing Agency Needs
PURCHASE DESCRIPTION
1. Statement of Need and Purpose: The purpose of this acquisition is to acquire a software driven lab automation equipment that is a fully automated liquid handling system using electronic pipettes and a wide portfolio of adapatable devices that allow for automated heating, shaking, etc. The equipment will be used to automate ELISA immunoassays for multiple users/groups at NIDA-IRP. This system will improve the quality and reproducibility of the data while also improving sample throughput.
2. Background Information and Objective The mission of the Intramural Research
Program (IRP) of the National Institute on Drug Abuse is to conduct state-of-the-art research on basic mechanisms that underlie drug abuse and addiction, and to develop new methods for the treatment of drug abuse and addiction. The Translational Analytical Core (TAC) provides both preclinical and clinical PIs at NIDA-IRP access to analytical services and shared instrumental resources to accomplish this goal. A key component of this research to identify biomarkers using immunoassays for long-time drug abuse and other addiction models in order to understand the underlying biochemistry mechanism which will enable better medical treatment. The TAC has need for automated liquid handling system that will allow for fully automated immunoassay analysis. This system will greatly improve the quality of immunoassay data by improving reproducibility and will speed up the time of analysis allowing for higher sample throughput. Additionally by automating the analysis this feel free up TAC staff to conduct other tasks in the lab.
