Version 11-30-2016-1 FAR Part 11—Describing Agency Needs

PURCHASE DESCRIPTION

1. Statement of Need and Purpose: The purpose of this acquisition is to provide supplies to the Center for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias for neurodegenerative disease research for the purpose of long read sequencing on Oxford Nanopore manufactured sequencing systems. These reagents will be used to identify causative genes for neurodegenerative diseases.

2. Background Information and Objective:

The National Institute on Aging’s Center for Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias (CARD) is continuing the 2024 initiative investigating Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA).

CARD is expanding focus on two key brain regions based on our previous pathological investigations, the superior temporal and superior parietal cortices from 40 PCA and age-matched 40 amnestic Alzheimer’s Disease cases to identify molecular and cellular differences that underpin the distinct pathological features of these phenotypes. This initiative will continue to generate long-read sequencing and methylation profiles, as well as single-cell transcriptomic data, to provide insights into the genetic, epigenetic, and transcriptional changes in these regions. Additionally, CARD aims to include samples from age-matched normal controls (n=20) as a baseline to further elucidate region-specific and disease-specific changes in PCA and amnestic Alzheimer’s Disease.
