STATEMENT OF WORK (SERVICES)

(SOW)

GENERAL INFORMATION

Title of Project:

Annual Service and Maintenance Agreement for a Thermo Electron Orbitrap Fusion Lumos Tribrid Mass Spectrometer

Statement of Need and Purpose:

The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) Analytical Chemistry Core (ACC) requires an annual service and maintenance contract for a Thermo Electron Orbitrap Fusion Lumos Tribrid Mass Spectrometer (MS) instrument used by NCATS analytical chemists.

This annual service contract is necessary to protect the Thermo Electron Orbitrap Fusion Lumos Tribrid MS, HPLC system, FAIMS module, and associated components in the event of malfunction or to provide preventative maintenance, which will allow the MS instrument to return to a working condition meeting factory specifications. The work must be performed by a Thermo Electron field service engineer as they have the requisite training to ensure Thermo Electron’s proprietary software and hardware functions properly. During service visits, DPI will provide access to the facility, as well as access to the Orbitrap Fusion Lumos MS instrument. There are no other government responsibilities beyond the above mentioned. Thermo Electron will perform the necessary service requests at no additional cost beyond the cost of the annual service contract. Furthermore, the field service engineer will provide documentation outlining the performance attributes of the MS instrument, HPLC system, FAIMS module, and associated components being serviced.

Background Information and Objective:

With the successful development and set up of the Mass Spectrometry laboratory within ACC, chemists have greatly expanded analytical capabilities at NCATS. We currently maintain and operate five high resolution MS, which include a Thermo Electron Orbitrap Fusion Lumos Tribrid MS. Current MS capabilities include high-throughput sample analysis, peptide and protein analysis (top-down and bottom-up), post-translational modifications analysis, multiple reaction monitoring (MRM), deep sequence proteomics, metabolomics, and ultra-high resolution analysis of small molecules. This has allowed us to establish collaborations for numerous ongoing projects at DPI where our involvement includes assay development, methods optimization, mass spectroscopy experimentation, and data analysis.

To date, the analytical chemistry group has received collaborative requests from the Biology and Chemistry groups within the three scientific branches as well as external collaborators.

From these requests, we have successfully completed method development and conducted compound screens for numerous projects. This was possible by maintaining instrumentation and equipment for constant use and maximum productivity. To help maintain and ensure the functionality of the Thermo Electron Orbitrap Fusion Lumos Tribrid Mass Spectrometer, we have a need for a Unity Essential Support Plan from Thermo Electron Scientific. This agreement will include annual preventative maintenance of the Orbitrap Fusion Lumos Tribrid MS and associated components to ensure proper system operability and longevity. In the event of a malfunction, this highly sophisticated and expensive instrument, as well as the associated components will require expert service. Therefore, it is of the utmost importance that the Orbitrap Fusion Lumos Tribrid MS and all associated components are protected by a Thermo Electron annual service service. Without such a contract in place, repair costs are extremely high and instrument downtime is much longer causing a significant decrease in scientific productivity.

Period of Performance:

One base year (12 months) with an additional 2 option years to begin upon receipt of award.
