1. Purpose

The U.S. American Embassy requests construction repair services for the installation of ferrocement jacketing for the purpose of repairing interior non-bearing masonry walls exhibiting heavy cracking.

The services shall include, but shall not be limited to mobilization, protection of existing facilities, shoring, removal of existing plaster in specified areas, installation of ferrocement jacketing comprising welded wire mesh and mortar cement plaster, paint, clean up, and demobilization.

The facility, MSGR, is located on the US Residential Compound in Juba, South Sudan. Access to the site shall be requested through the Embassy’s Facility Manager (FM) or Contracting Officer Representative (COR).

The Contractor for this work shall be a licensed or registered construction company, registered in South Sudan, with at least 10 years of demonstrated experience and expertise in the installation and execution of masonry and masonry repairs. The contractor shall be familiar with United States building code regulations including the International Building Code (IBC), the American Concrete Institute (ACI), and the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) as all works shall comply with the above referenced standards, as specified in the contract documents.

2. Background

There have been severable notable full-height cracks in the interior walls of the MSGR. A structural evaluation report, dated, October 16, 2023, and prepared by Green Powered Technology determined that the walls affected are non-bearing unreinforced masonry affected by large steel security doors previously affixed to the walls and by live load and wind load transferred through the truss system above bearing on the interior walls as a result of an overloaded ceiling structure and deformation over time.

The cracks were determined to be non-structural in nature, so the recommended repairs have been proposed in order to maintain the interior walls’ stability, reduce the emergence of future cracks and to extend the useful life of the walls.

3. Scope of Work

The contractor is required to supply and install all resources including tools, labor, materials, and equipment necessary for the work including supervision during installation.

The intent of this project is to repair existing interior nonbearing walls exhibiting large cracks at the MSGR. The repair method is ferrocement jacketing.
