REPLACE GULF COAST CHICKEES SCOPE OF WORK-1

SCOPE OF WORK—REPLACE GULF COAST CHICKEES

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. This work consists of providing all labor, materials, and equipment to remove and replace two existing chickees (Sweetwater and Plate Creek) and replace the dock and camping platform at Lostmans 5. Each chickee and dock is at a different location in Everglades National Park. Chickees are over-the-water pile supported structures used as campsites by visitors in the backcountry. All work sites are in the backcountry and only accessible by boat. Specific sites are:

1. Sweetwater Chickee: This work is to remove and replace an existing double chickee. GPS

Coordinates of the site are North 25.7445° Latitude, West 81.2119° Longitude.

2. Plate Creek Chickee: This work is to remove and replace an existing single chickee with a new double chickee. GPS Coordinates of the site are North 25.6410° Latitude, West 81.1490° Longitude.

3. Lostmans 5 Dock and Camping Platform: This work is to remove and replace the existing dock and camping platform. GPS Coordinates of the site are North 25.6340° Latitude, West 81.1425° Longitude.

B. All existing structures are visible on Google Earth.

C. NPS drawing number 160/187,252 is part of this scope of work.

1.2 PERMITS

A. The Government has obtained permits for this project from the USACE and Florida DEP. Copies of these permits will be provided to the Contractor.

B. The Contractor shall follow all conditions required in these permits.

C. The Contractor shall prepare and submit all follow up paperwork required by the permits. This paperwork is expected to include but not limited to a “Commencement Notification” and the “Completion Statement of Compliance”. Any signatures needed by the owner and/or a licensed professional engineer will be provided by the Government.

D. The paperwork shall be filed within the deadlines required in the permit. The Contractor shall provide the Contracting Officer copies of all paperwork at the time it is submitted to the agencies.

1.3 PROJECT STAGING

A. All work sites are only accessible by boat. The closest marinas are at Everglades City, FL. The NPS marina facility at Everglades City will be under construction during the time of this contract and will not be available to the Contractor. The Contractor will have to plan for any marina logistical support from a private marina.

1.4 USE OF PREMISES AND WORK RESTRICTIONS

A. Use of Site: Limit use of the premises to the area immediately adjacent to the work site. Do not disturb the site beyond the work area.

B. Preservation of Natural Features:

1. Prevent damage to natural surroundings. Restore damaged areas, repairing or replacing damaged trees and plants, at no additional expense to the Government.

2. Appropriate erosion and siltation controls must be maintained during construction.

3. All equipment must be clean and free from visible debris (dirt, plant materials) prior to being brought into Everglades National Park.

4. Heavy timber mats or similar products shall be used to support any tracked or wheeled equipment operating on the ground site at Lostmans 5.

C. Preservation of Cultural Resources: No known archeological resources are in this area of this construction. If previously unknown archeological resources are discovered during the work of this project, the Contractor shall immediately stop work around the area of discovery and notify the Contracting Officer. An equitable adjustment will be made in accordance with the Changes clause of the contract.

D. Start of Work Notification: At least two weeks prior to the start of on-site work, the Contractor shall notify the Contracting Officer of the intended start date. This will allow Government personnel to conduct a final review of the work site for any issues prior to the start of construction.

E. Threatened, Endangered and Species of Concern: The following threatened, endangered, and species of concern could be encountered in the project area: Crocodiles, Sawfish, Manatees, and Sea Turtles.

1. No taking of any endangered species shall be allowed while conducting any work of this contract.

2. To avoid potential impacts to crocodiles and their nests, ground disturbing work at Lostmans 5 will not be carried out at this site between September 15th and March 1st.

3. All work shall be done in daylight hours.

4. All sightings of these species shall be reported to the Contracting Officer.

5. When a threatened or endangered species is present or observed on the work site, work shall be postponed until the individuals leave the area.

6. The Contractor shall comply with the “Standard Manatee Conditions for In-Water Work –

2011”.

7. The Contractor shall comply with National Marine Fisheries Service's “Sea Turtle and

Smalltooth Sawfish Construction Conditions,” dated March 23, 2006.

8. At the start of the project, all on-site employees shall receive training to identify threatened and endangered species which maybe encountered on the site.

9. Activities authorized under this contract will be performed in accordance with all applicable

PDCs contained in the Jacksonville District Programmatic Biological Opinion.

F. On-Site Work Hours: Work shall be generally performed during normal business working hours of 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Requests for any work outside those hours, including weekends and holidays, must be submitted for approval at least 48 hours in advance. No night work shall be performed.

G. Hurricanes: The Government requires closing of operations between 48 and 72 hours of anticipated landfall of a tropical storm or hurricane as determined by the National Park Service. All project materials shall be adequately secured or removed from the site before the closure.

1.5 PRECONSTRUCTION CONFERENCE:

A. Before start of construction, the Contracting Officer will arrange a meeting with the Contractor. The meeting agenda will include the following as a minimum: correspondence procedures, designation of responsible personnel, payments to the Contractor, park rules and regulations, construction schedule, submittals, and project closeout requirements.

1.6 SUBMITTALS

A. All submittals shall be transmitted electronically in PDF or MS Word format.

B. Pre-Construction Submittals:

1. Submit a Progress Schedule (normally in bar chart form) showing estimated starting and completion dates for each phase of the work.

2. Submit a Schedule of Values showing the breakdown of the Contract. This breakdown shall include administrative costs, general condition costs, overhead, and profit in the work breakdown items and not as separate items. The Schedule of Values will also form the basis for progress payments.

3. Submit a safety plan per the accident prevention paragraph of this scope.

4. Copies of any pre-construction forms or notifications filed with a regulatory agency as required by the permits.

C. Material Submittals:

1. Submittals are required for the following items:

a. Manufactures Literature or Cut Sheets:

1) Fiberglass Decking

2) Wood Piles

3) Composite Wood

4) Metal Roofing

b. Warranty: Provide manufacture's written warranty for:

1) Fiberglass Decking.

2) Aluminum Dock Structure.

c. Shop Drawings:

1) Aluminum structures and decking.

2. All material submittals shall be transmitted using National Park Service form DSC-1(CS). No action will be taken on a submittal item unless accompanied by the transmittal form.

3. Provide submittals to the Contracting Officer at least 21 days before need for approval.

4. The Government will return the submittals either approved, approved with notations, or disapproved.

D. Periodic Submittals:

1. Provide quality assurance reports per the quality assurance paragraph of this section.

2. On a weekly basis, provide the Contracting Officer with a two-week look ahead schedule of his intended activities. This schedule can be an informal handwritten paper copy.

E. Post Construction Submittals:

1. Project Record Drawings: Maintain one complete set of contract drawings. Clearly mark changes, deletions, and additions to show actual construction conditions. Show additions in red, deletions in green, and special instructions in blue.

2. Copies of any closeout forms or notifications filed with a regulatory agency as required by the permits.

1.7 ACCIDENT PREVENTION

A. Before on-site work begins, submit a written accident prevention plan containing the following:

1. Identify personnel responsible for safety at the corporate, project, and on-site levels.

2. Outline of each phase of the work, the hazards associated with each major phase, and the methods proposed to ensure property protection and safety of the public, National Park Service personnel, and Contractor's employees.

3. Include site specific emergency contact information and locations of the nearest emergency medical facilities.

4. Address issues unique to backcountry work including emergency communication, response, and evacuation procedures for areas where cell coverage and/or vehicle access are not available.

5. Address hazards unique to the backcountry including dealing with dangerous wildlife, insects, poisonous plants, and the hot/humid conditions expected.

B. The Contractor shall follow all federal, state, and local safety and health requirements.

C. The Contractor shall report all accidents to the Contracting Officer as soon as possible and assist the Contracting Officer and other officials as required in the investigation of the accident.

D. First Aid Facilities: Provide adequate facilities for the number of employees and the type of construction at the site.

E. Personnel protective equipment: Meet requirements of NIOSH and ANSI.

1.8 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. The Contractor shall keep daily reports of the construction activity. The form of the report is up to the Contractor, but the report shall include the following information:

1. Date

2. Project Title and Contract Number

3. Contractor’s name and On-site Superintendent’s name

4. General description of weather and ground conditions

5. Number of employees (including sub-contractors) working on-site. Employees shall be listed by job categories.

6. List of major equipment working on-site.

7. Description of work performed

8. Any issues arising including disputes, unforeseen circumstances, differing site conditions, delays, accidents, etc.

B. Reports shall be e-mailed to the Contracting Officer on a weekly basis.

1.9 CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS:

A. All materials shall be Contractor furnished from outside the park.

1.10 DISPOSAL

A. All removed material becomes the property of the Contractor and shall be disposed of outside the park, in accordance with all Federal, State, and local regulatory guidelines

1.11 FIELD VERIFICATION:

A. Field verify all new and existing dimensions affecting the work of this contract before ordering materials. Any discrepancies between construction drawings, construction specifications, and field conditions shall be brought to the attention of the Contracting Officer before work is to be performed. Any work that is performed without notifying the Contracting Officer shall be done at the Contractor's own expense.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 WOOD PILE AND PILE WRAP

A. ASTM D25, natural taper. Sizes given are based on butt diameter.

B. Treatment: Chromated Copper Arsenate (2.50 pcf).

C. Sheeting Wrap: 60 mil polyethylene.

D. Pile Cap for Wood Piles: PVC cap, size to fit piles.

E. Nails: 316 stainless steel roofing nails.

2.2 ALUMINUM STRUCTURES

A. The Contractor shall provide the structure, including aluminum pile caps, to the dimensions shown on the plans and designed to meet the following criteria:

1. Deck Live Load for overwater Chickees and Docks: 100 psf (pounds per square foot)

2. Deck Live Load for over land Camping Platforms: 60 psf

3. Roof Live Load: 20 psf (pounds per square foot)

4. Dead Load: Per Contractors Design.

5. Winds Loads:

a. Lateral pressure applied to the side of structure: 90 psf.

b. Uplift on deck/roof: 60 psf

c. Downward on deck/roof: 60 psf

6. Wave Loads for Overwater Structures Only (Chickees and Docks):

a. Lateral Wave: 200 psf. This load only applies to parts of the structure below the top of the deck.

b. Uplift on deck: 110 psf

c. Downward on deck: 110 psf

7. The Contractor shall be responsible for the design of the connection to the piles.

8. The Contractor deck structure shall not cause loadings on the piles that exceeds the limits of the

Government provided design as listed in these specifications.

9. The structure shall support the grating so under the live design load, the maximum deflection of the grating is less than the Span Length divided by 180.

B. Design of the piles is provided by the Government. When installed as shown and specified, the dock designer can assume each pile can be loaded to the following limits:

1. Piles for Sweetwater and Plate Creek chickees

a. Vertical Pile Load: 15,000 pounds

b. Vertical Pile Uplift: 7,500 pounds

c. Horizontal lateral load at the top of the pile: 2,500 pounds

2. Piles for Lostmans 5 Dock

a. Vertical Pile Load: 7,500 pounds

b. Vertical Pile Uplift: 3,500 pounds

c. Horizontal lateral load at the top of the pile: 2,500 pounds

3. Piles for Lostmans 5 overland Camping Platform

a. Vertical Pile Load: 10,000 pounds

b. Vertical Pile Uplift: 5,000 pounds

c. Horizontal lateral load at the top of the pile: 1,000 pounds

C. Materials: 6061 T6 Marine Grade Aluminum and 316 Stainless Fasteners.

D. Fabrication: The aluminum structure shall be fabricated in accordance with AWS D1.2 Structural Welding Code—Aluminum.

E. Warranty: The Manufacturer/Fabricator shall provide a 5-year limited warranty against defects in the dock structure.

2.3 FIBERGLASS DECKING

A. Fiberglass grating with a minimum 43% open area for light transmittance.

B. Must be ADA compliant with a maximum open space of 1/2 inch.

C. Grading depth (thickness) shall be a minimum of 1-inch.

D. Gating shall be manufactured with a barefoot friendly aqua-grit (sugar grit) to the top surface of each bar providing slip resistance.

E. Load/Deflection: Maximum deflection of 0.20 inches with a uniform distributed load of 100 pounds per square foot at 30-inch clear span.

F. All finished surfaces of fiberglass items shall be smooth, resin-rich, free of voids and without dry spots, cracks, crazes or unreinforced areas. All glass fibers shall be well covered with resin to protect against their exposure due to wear or weathering.

G. All mechanical grating clips shall be manufactured of Type 316SS (stainless steel).

H. Manufacturer’s 3-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.

I. Micro-Mesh Molded Grating as manufactured by Fibergrate Composite Structures or approved equal.

2.4 COMPOSITE WOOD

A. Used for facial on the aluminum structure and for fender piles.

B. Reclaimed wood and polyethylene plastic with additives for coloring and inhibiting fungal/algal growth; free from toxic chemicals.

C. Surface texture: Wood grain embossed finish

D. Moisture Shield Composite Decking or approved equal.

2.5 ROOF SUB-DECKING

A. 19/32 Performance Category APA Rated Plywood Sheathing, Exterior. A higher performance rating shall be used if required by the roofing product NOA. Treatment: AWPA Use category for saltwater splash (Category UC4B).

2.6 CHICKEE ROOFING

A. 5V-crimp style metal roof panels. 26 gauge. Finish: G90 per ASTM A653 for Galvanized. Include matching peak, rake, and eave trim.

B. Underlayment: Self-adhering polymer-modified bitumen underlayment complying with ASTM D1970.

C. Flashing: 24-gage galvanized steel sheet, meeting requirements of ASTM A653 with minimum zinc coating of 1.25 ounces per square foot and 0.2 percent copper bearing, and mill phosphatized for maximum paint adherence.

2.7 CHICKEE/DOCK SIGNS

A. Sign with routed lettering approximately ¼ inch deep.

1. Materials: Wood or High Density Urethane.

2. Size: Three-inch lettering with 1-inch minimum margin between lettering and sign edges.

3. Colors: White lettering with NPS Brown (Pantone PMS 1615) background.

4. Type Style shall be NPS Rawlinson. NPS Rawlinson is a font licensed by the National Park

Service. NPS Rawlinson Font Files will be provided to the Contractor for use on this project.

The font files provided shall not be used for any other purpose.

2.8 HARDWARE

A. Hardware including bolts, nuts, anchors, washers, screws, and nails shall be 316 stainless steel.

B. Dock cleats shall be 6” nominal size and made from 316 stainless steel. Washers shall be used on the underside of the deck to prevent pullout.

2.9 CHICKEE LADDER

A. Welded marine grade aluminum construction, U-shaped railings that extends above the deck, 4 steps, 2” deep flat rungs with nonslip surface. 18” minimum width, and 500 lbs. minimum load rating.

2.10 TABLE MATERIALS

A. Aluminum Planking: Extruded aluminum seat planks, aluminum alloy 6063-T6, clear anodized 204R1, AA-M10C22A31, Class II with wall thickness nominally .078" for impact and deformation resistance. Minimum uniform live load of 100 psf.

B. Provide all planks with aluminum end caps and attachment hardware.

2.11 PORTABLE TOILET

A. Government Provided. Salvage and store the existing portable toilet. Reinstall on the new chickee.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 DEMOLITION

A. The existing structure shall be cut up into removable pieces and transported for disposal as required in the disposal section of this scope. The existing piles shall be pulled and removed.

3.2 WOOD PILES AND PILE WRAP

A. Install piles to the depth shown on the drawings.

B. Piles shall be installed plumb to within 1 inch in 10'.

C. Piles shall be installed without splices.

D. In rock, the pile shall be installed in a pre-drilled hole not greater that the pile diameter.

E. Attached a cap to protect the top of each pile. Attachment shall be with a minimum of (4) #10 x 3/4” stainless steel screws or stainless steel roofing nails. The cap shall fit the piling naturally without having to modify the pile cap in any fashion to forcefully fit the pile diameter (e.g. splitting a cap to fit a larger diameter piling than the pile cap was designed to fit).

F. Install pile wrap from the mud line to 1’ above MHHW. Overlap seams a minimum of 6 inches.

Connect to the pile with stainless steel roofing nails spaced at 2-inch on center along all edges and seams.

3.3 ALUMINUM STRUCTURE

A. Install the aluminum structure per the dock suppliers approved submittal and shop drawings.

B. At all points where the aluminum structure and the treated piles touch, install 60 mil polyethylene sheeting between the two materials to prevent direct contact.

3.4 BOLTS

A. Bolt holes shall be a minimum of 1/32" to a maximum of 1/16" larger that the diameter of the bolt.

B. When installed and tightened, at least 2 full threads shall be exposed beyond the nut.

C. If bolt head or nut rest against wood, washers not less than standard cut shall be placed between the wood and bolt head and between the wood and nut.

3.5 DECKING

A. Install decking in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.

B. All field fabricated grating cuts shall be coated by the contractor in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and approved sealers.

C. Field cut and drill fiberglass reinforced plastic products with carbide or diamond tipped bits and blades. Panels shall be installed in as large of pieces as available to minimize seams.

D. Panels shall be attached to the structure with a minimum of two clips at each end. If the panel is more than 4 feet long, intermediate rows shall be added so the spacing between rows is less than 4 feet.

3.6 ROOFING

A. Follow manufacture’s recommendations and the product NOA including installation of eave, rake and, peak trim. Roof panels shall cover the full roof length without splices. Roof nails/screws shall be a minimum 1.5 inches long.

3.7 SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION AND FINAL INSPECTION

A. Before scheduling the final inspection, remove all tools, equipment, surplus materials, and rubbish.

At the time of final inspection, project shall be thoroughly clean and ready for use.

B. Submit written certification that project, or designated portion of project, is substantially complete, and request in writing a final inspection. Contracting Officer will make an inspection within 10 days of receipt of request.

C. If the project is determined to be substantially complete, the Contracting Officer will prepare a list of deficiencies to be corrected before final acceptance and issue a Letter of Substantial Completion.

D. After all deficiencies have been corrected, a Letter of Acceptance will be issued.

1. Submittals are required for the following items:
a. Manufactures Literature or Cut Sheets:
1) Fiberglass Decking
2) Wood Piles
3) Composite Wood
4) Metal Roofing
b. Warranty: Provide manufacture's written warranty for:
1) Fiberglass Decking.
2) Aluminum Dock Structure.
c. Shop Drawings:
1) Aluminum structures and decking.
2. All material submittals shall be transmitted using National Park Service form DSC-1(CS). No action will be taken on a submittal item unless accompanied by the transmittal form.
3. Provide submittals to the Contracting Officer at least 21 days before need for approval.
4. The Government will return the submittals either approved, approved with notations, or disapproved.
D. Periodic Submittals:
1. Provide quality assurance reports per the quality assurance paragraph of this section.
2. On a weekly basis, provide the Contracting Officer with a two-week look ahead schedule of his intended activities. This schedule can be an informal handwritten paper copy.
E. Post Construction Submittals:
1. Project Record Drawings: Maintain one complete set of contract drawings. Clearly mark changes, deletions, and additions to show actual construction conditions. Show additions in red, deletions in green, and special instructions in blue.
2. Copies of any closeout forms or notifications filed with a regulatory agency as required by the permits.
1.7 ACCIDENT PREVENTION
A. Before on-site work begins, submit a written accident prevention plan containing the following:
1. Identify personnel responsible for safety at the corporate, project, and on-site levels.
2. Outline of each phase of the work, the hazards associated with each major phase, and the methods proposed to ensure property protection and safety of the public, National Park Service personnel, and Contractor's employees.
3. Include site specific emergency contact information and locations of the nearest emergency medical facilities.
4. Address issues unique to backcountry work including emergency communication, response, and evacuation procedures for areas where cell coverage and/or vehicle access are not available.
5. Address hazards unique to the backcountry including dealing with dangerous wildlife, insects, poisonous plants, and the hot/humid conditions expected.
B. The Contractor shall follow all federal, state, and local safety and health requirements.
C. The Contractor shall report all accidents to the Contracting Officer as soon as possible and assist the Contracting Officer and other officials as required in the investigation of the accident.
D. First Aid Facilities: Provide adequate facilities for the number of employees and the type of construction at the site.
E. Personnel protective equipment: Meet requirements of NIOSH and ANSI.
1.8 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. The Contractor shall keep daily reports of the construction activity. The form of the report is up to the Contractor, but the report shall include the following information:
1. Date
2. Project Title and Contract Number
3. Contractor’s name and On-site Superintendent’s name
4. General description of weather and ground conditions
5. Number of employees (including sub-contractors) working on-site. Employees shall be listed by job categories.
6. List of major equipment working on-site.
7. Description of work performed
8. Any issues arising including disputes, unforeseen circumstances, differing site conditions, delays, accidents, etc.

B. Reports shall be e-mailed to the Contracting Officer on a weekly basis.

1.9 CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS:
A. All materials shall be Contractor furnished from outside the park.
1.10 DISPOSAL
A. All removed material becomes the property of the Contractor and shall be disposed of outside the park, in accordance with all Federal, State, and local regulatory guidelines

PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.1 WOOD PILE AND PILE WRAP
A. ASTM D25, natural taper. Sizes given are based on butt diameter.
B. Treatment: Chromated Copper Arsenate (2.50 pcf).
C. Sheeting Wrap: 60 mil polyethylene.
D. Pile Cap for Wood Piles: PVC cap, size to fit piles.
E. Nails: 316 stainless steel roofing nails.
2.2 ALUMINUM STRUCTURES
A. The Contractor shall provide the structure, including aluminum pile caps, to the dimensions shown on the plans and designed to meet the following criteria:
1. Deck Live Load for overwater Chickees and Docks: 100 psf (pounds per square foot)
2. Deck Live Load for over land Camping Platforms: 60 psf
3. Roof Live Load: 20 psf (pounds per square foot)
4. Dead Load: Per Contractors Design.
5. Winds Loads:
a. Lateral pressure applied to the side of structure: 90 psf.
b. Uplift on deck/roof: 60 psf
c. Downward on deck/roof: 60 psf
6. Wave Loads for Overwater Structures Only (Chickees and Docks):
a. Lateral Wave: 200 psf. This load only applies to parts of the structure below the top of the deck.
b. Uplift on deck: 110 psf
c. Downward on deck: 110 psf
7. The Contractor shall be responsible for the design of the connection to the piles.
8. The Contractor deck structure shall not cause loadings on the piles that exceeds the limits of the Government provided design as listed in these specifications.
9. The structure shall support the grating so under the live design load, the maximum deflection of the grating is less than the Span Length divided by 180.
B. Design of the piles is provided by the Government. When installed as shown and specified, the dock designer can assume each pile can be loaded to the following limits:
1. Piles for Sweetwater and Plate Creek chickees
a. Vertical Pile Load: 15,000 pounds
b. Vertical Pile Uplift: 7,500 pounds
c. Horizontal lateral load at the top of the pile: 2,500 pounds
2. Piles for Lostmans 5 Dock
a. Vertical Pile Load: 7,500 pounds
b. Vertical Pile Uplift: 3,500 pounds
c. Horizontal lateral load at the top of the pile: 2,500 pounds
3. Piles for Lostmans 5 overland Camping Platform
a. Vertical Pile Load: 10,000 pounds
b. Vertical Pile Uplift: 5,000 pounds
c. Horizontal lateral load at the top of the pile: 1,000 pounds
C. Materials: 6061 T6 Marine Grade Aluminum and 316 Stainless Fasteners.
D. Fabrication: The aluminum structure shall be fabricated in accordance with AWS D1.2 Structural Welding Code—Aluminum.
E. Warranty: The Manufacturer/Fabricator shall provide a 5-year limited warranty against defects in the dock structure.
2.3 FIBERGLASS DECKING
A. Fiberglass grating with a minimum 43% open area for light transmittance.
B. Must be ADA compliant with a maximum open space of 1/2 inch.
C. Grading depth (thickness) shall be a minimum of 1-inch.
D. Gating shall be manufactured with a barefoot friendly aqua-grit (sugar grit) to the top surface of each bar providing slip resistance.
E. Load/Deflection: Maximum deflection of 0.20 inches with a uniform distributed load of 100 pounds per square foot at 30-inch clear span.
F. All finished surfaces of fiberglass items shall be smooth, resin-rich, free of voids and without dry spots, cracks, crazes or unreinforced areas. All glass fibers shall be well covered with resin to protect against their exposure due to wear or wea...
G. All mechanical grating clips shall be manufactured of Type 316SS (stainless steel).
H. Manufacturer’s 3-year limited warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
I. Micro-Mesh Molded Grating as manufactured by Fibergrate Composite Structures or approved equal.
2.4 COMPOSITE WOOD
A. Used for facial on the aluminum structure and for fender piles.
B. Reclaimed wood and polyethylene plastic with additives for coloring and inhibiting fungal/algal growth; free from toxic chemicals.
C. Surface texture: Wood grain embossed finish
D. Moisture Shield Composite Decking or approved equal.
2.5 ROOF SUB-DECKING
A. 19/32 Performance Category APA Rated Plywood Sheathing, Exterior. A higher performance rating shall be used if required by the roofing product NOA. Treatment: AWPA Use category for saltwater splash (Category UC4B).
2.6 CHICKEE ROOFING
A. 5V-crimp style metal roof panels. 26 gauge. Finish: G90 per ASTM A653 for Galvanized. Include matching peak, rake, and eave trim.
B. Underlayment: Self-adhering polymer-modified bitumen underlayment complying with ASTM D1970.
C. Flashing: 24-gage galvanized steel sheet, meeting requirements of ASTM A653 with minimum zinc coating of 1.25 ounces per square foot and 0.2 percent copper bearing, and mill phosphatized for maximum paint adherence.
2.7 CHICKEE/DOCK SIGNS
A. Sign with routed lettering approximately ¼ inch deep.
1. Materials: Wood or High Density Urethane.
2. Size: Three-inch lettering with 1-inch minimum margin between lettering and sign edges.
3. Colors: White lettering with NPS Brown (Pantone PMS 1615) background.
4. Type Style shall be NPS Rawlinson. NPS Rawlinson is a font licensed by the National Park Service. NPS Rawlinson Font Files will be provided to the Contractor for use on this project. The font files provided shall not be used for any other purpose.
2.8 HARDWARE
A. Hardware including bolts, nuts, anchors, washers, screws, and nails shall be 316 stainless steel.
B. Dock cleats shall be 6” nominal size and made from 316 stainless steel. Washers shall be used on the underside of the deck to prevent pullout.
2.9 CHICKEE LADDER
A. Welded marine grade aluminum construction, U-shaped railings that extends above the deck, 4 steps, 2” deep flat rungs with nonslip surface. 18” minimum width, and 500 lbs. minimum load rating.
2.10 TABLE MATERIALS
A. Aluminum Planking: Extruded aluminum seat planks, aluminum alloy 6063-T6, clear anodized 204R1, AA-M10C22A31, Class II with wall thickness nominally .078" for impact and deformation resistance. Minimum uniform live load of 100 psf.
B. Provide all planks with aluminum end caps and attachment hardware.
2.11 PORTABLE TOILET
A. Government Provided. Salvage and store the existing portable toilet. Reinstall on the new chickee.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 DEMOLITION
A. The existing structure shall be cut up into removable pieces and transported for disposal as required in the disposal section of this scope. The existing piles shall be pulled and removed.
3.2 WOOD PILES AND PILE WRAP
A. Install piles to the depth shown on the drawings.
B. Piles shall be installed plumb to within 1 inch in 10'.
C. Piles shall be installed without splices.
D. In rock, the pile shall be installed in a pre-drilled hole not greater that the pile diameter.
E. Attached a cap to protect the top of each pile. Attachment shall be with a minimum of (4) #10 x 3/4” stainless steel screws or stainless steel roofing nails. The cap shall fit the piling naturally without having to modify the pile cap in any fash...
F. Install pile wrap from the mud line to 1’ above MHHW. Overlap seams a minimum of 6 inches. Connect to the pile with stainless steel roofing nails spaced at 2-inch on center along all edges and seams.
3.3 ALUMINUM STRUCTURE
A. Install the aluminum structure per the dock suppliers approved submittal and shop drawings.
B. At all points where the aluminum structure and the treated piles touch, install 60 mil polyethylene sheeting between the two materials to prevent direct contact.
3.4 BOLTS
A. Bolt holes shall be a minimum of 1/32" to a maximum of 1/16" larger that the diameter of the bolt.
B. When installed and tightened, at least 2 full threads shall be exposed beyond the nut.
C. If bolt head or nut rest against wood, washers not less than standard cut shall be placed between the wood and bolt head and between the wood and nut.
3.5 DECKING
A. Install decking in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
B. All field fabricated grating cuts shall be coated by the contractor in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and approved sealers.
C. Field cut and drill fiberglass reinforced plastic products with carbide or diamond tipped bits and blades. Panels shall be installed in as large of pieces as available to minimize seams.
D. Panels shall be attached to the structure with a minimum of two clips at each end. If the panel is more than 4 feet long, intermediate rows shall be added so the spacing between rows is less than 4 feet.
3.6 ROOFING
A. Follow manufacture’s recommendations and the product NOA including installation of eave, rake and, peak trim. Roof panels shall cover the full roof length without splices. Roof nails/screws shall be a minimum 1.5 inches long.
3.7 SUBSTANTIAL COMPLETION AND FINAL INSPECTION
A. Before scheduling the final inspection, remove all tools, equipment, surplus materials, and rubbish. At the time of final inspection, project shall be thoroughly clean and ready for use.
B. Submit written certification that project, or designated portion of project, is substantially complete, and request in writing a final inspection. Contracting Officer will make an inspection within 10 days of receipt of request.
C. If the project is determined to be substantially complete, the Contracting Officer will prepare a list of deficiencies to be corrected before final acceptance and issue a Letter of Substantial Completion.
D. After all deficiencies have been corrected, a Letter of Acceptance will be issued.
