About this file

This document is a set of questions and answers related to Solicitation 140P5424R0005 for the replacement of Gulf Coast Chickees issued by the Department of the Interior National Park Service Southeast Region.

The Q&A provides clarification on several technical details. It indicates that a 2.5 foot draft vessel may be able to access the sites, but may need to wait for high tide in some areas. It defines the term "pile bent" as referring to the pair of piles and connecting beams that support the stringers and decking. The Q&A also confirms that all three Chickees will be closed to visitors during the construction period, and that the crocodile nesting season restrictions prohibit work from March 1st through September 15th, allowing work only during the September 15th through March 1st window.

Sol 140P5424R0005 Amendment 0001 – A achment 0004 – Q & A

1. We are looking at nau cal charts of the area and have found li le informa on as to depth. For example, the channel sec ons at Lastman’s River between Onion Key and Two Island Bay and between Two Islands Bay and Lastman’s Five Bay appear as a 1 depth. In your opinion would a

2.5 dra vessel be capable of reaching the 3 sites?

Response: The Lostmans and Chatham Rivers are plenty deep to accommodate a 2.5 dra vessel, but the back creeks and bays leading to the sites may be problema c. NPS boats do not have a problem ge ng to these sites but the dra on our vessel is only 17 inches (1.4 feet). A vessel with a dra of 2.5 feet may need to wait for high de to cross shallower areas.

2. What does the term pile bent refer to? See the image below.

Response: “Pile Bent” refers to a pair of piles and the connec ng aluminum beams. The stringers and decking then rest on the pile bent. You can see the pile bents on the profile and on the plan view where the decking is omi ed to show the underlying structure.

3. Will all three Chickees be off-limits to park patrons during the construc on period?

Response: Yes, the Chickees/Docks will be closed to Visitors.

4. The SOW indicates work restric ons due to the crocodile nes ng season Between Sept 15th and

March 1st. Do you mean March through Sept (April, May, June, July Aug)?

Response: Crocodile Nes ng Season (when work cannot happen) is from March 1st to

September 15. Therefore, the window to do this work is from September 15th through March

1st.
