SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
WFRC CALCIUM THIOSULFATE METERING PUMP SYSTEM
1.0 INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) Western Fisheries Research Center (WFRC) located in Seattle, Washington requires a calcium thiosulfate metering pump skid system including installation to support de-chlorination of process water at the facility.
The WFRC carries out research and provides technical assistance to support the best possible stewardship of the Nation's natural resources, emphasizing fish populations and aquatic ecosystems of the West. The WFRC has a 50-year history of excellence in fisheries disciplines and are leaders in the field of molecular and microbiology within the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The WFRC addresses the unique issues of large western river systems such as the Columbia, and the challenges faced by desert aquatic systems and their threatened or endangered fish species.
The WFRC facility utilizes a process water system that requires precise de-chlorination through controlled calcium thiosulfate dosing to protect process water discharge from chlorine exposure. The existing Sulphur dioxide gas de-chlorination system is cost prohibitive and requires replacement with a modern, reliable duplex skid system. A duplex (dual pump) configuration is required to ensure continuous de-chlorination capability with built-in redundancy.
The calcium thiosulfate dosing duty is a low-flow, high-precision application. A metering pump with a high turndown ratio is required to enable accurate dosing at the fractional gallon-per-hour feed rates needed to replace the existing Sulphur dioxide gas system, while retaining headroom for dilute solution strengths and operational dose adjustments.
1.1 Brand Name or Equal
These Salient Characteristics reference the Blue-White FLEXFLO M1 peristaltic metering pump and CHEM-FEED CFCS-2 Compact Duplex Skid System to establish the salient physical, functional, and performance characteristics required by the Government. These references are for descriptive purposes only and do not restrict competition. Products that are equal to the referenced items and meet or exceed all minimum requirements stated in Section 4.0 will be considered for award. Offerors proposing an "equal" product shall clearly identify the proposed make and model and shall provide manufacturer technical data demonstrating compliance with each salient characteristic listed in Section 4.0. The Government will determine equivalency based on the documentation submitted.
2.0 SCOPE
This procurement is for one (1) peristaltic metering pump duplex skid system complete with two (2) peristaltic metering pumps, all skid components, delivery, installation, startup, and operator training at the USGS WFRC Seattle campus. The Blue-White FLEXFLO® M1 / CHEM-FEED® CFCS-2 system, or equal, is the reference basis for this requirement.
2.1 Delivery and installation address – USGS WFRC, 6505 NE 65th Street, Seattle, WA 98115.
2.2 Estimated Period of Performance – September 1 to December 1, 2026
2.3 Work Hours – Installation work will be performed during normal business hours, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
2.4 Administrative Point of Contact TBA
3.0 APPLICABLE DOCUMENTS
