About this file
This is a technical specification document for tungsten-carbide insert snowplow cutting edges issued by the State of Iowa for snow and ice removal operations in Wright County. The specification defines requirements for snowplow blades available in 3-foot and 4-foot segments with either 7/8" x 5" or 7/8" x 6" flat steel cores encased in rubber, fabricated from SAE 1020-1045 quality steel. Blades must be punched to AASHTO standards with 11/16" holes for 5/8" diameter plow bolts and marked with manufacturer identification and year of manufacture using 3/8" steel character dies. Each blade shall be yellow-painted and rust-resistant except for insert and brazing areas, with "Front" stenciled on the blade face. The opportunity appears to be posted on September 12, 2026, with a due date of September 15, 2026, though specific contract award dates, incumbent information, and the quantity of blades required are not detailed in the available documents.
The specification requires mining-grade, hard-rock percussion bit tungsten carbide inserts with 11-13% cobalt content and a density not less than 14.2, with Rockwell hardness of 87-88A or a range of 88-93A depending on section requirements. Inserts must be trapezoid-shaped with a 25-30 degree angle and a 1/32-1/16" radius nose, with Kennametal 3030 or demonstrated equivalents approved for use. Brazing must utilize AM Platinum 503 or H & H #3 silver solder with minimum shear strength of 30,000 psi, applied to all contact surfaces with no gaps or oxidized surfaces. Bidders must provide written certification of specification compliance and submit sample blade sections upon request prior to and after award. Upon delivery to Wright County, all shipments are subject to inspection and testing, with rejection of any 5% of blades triggering return of the entire shipment at the bidder's expense. Materials and assembly are guaranteed against breakage, brazing failure, and unsatisfactory performance under normal cold weather snow and ice removal operations.
